Hilton HHonors - Hilton Diamond - what counts towards 100k base point statusView Full Version : Hilton Diamond - what counts towards 100k base point status nittanydave Jul 15, 12, 2:50 pm Looking for some advice from those who know best - what is counted to the 100k which is qualifying - do credit card charges / points count? how about point bonuses on promos? Thank you! JDiver Jul 15, 12, 3:05 pm Base points are those 10 points per dollar earned for stays and those additional room charges that earn points (often, not services provided by outside vendors). The plethora of points from bonuses, credit card purchases, status bonus points, etc. are redeemable points, but will not qualify for base points. More specifically, from Hilton HHonors Terms and Conditions, Accrual of Points (http://hhonors1.hilton.com/en_US/hh/terms.do#accrual_of_points): 5. A Member may earn Base Points for up to two rooms per stay, if all eligible charges for both rooms are paid on one folio. Base Points will be earned for all eligible folio charges incurred on both rooms. The term "eligible folio charges" is defined below. Bonus Points issued on Base Points, including tier bonuses (15%, 25% or 50%, depending on Member tier), Bonus Points earned through the HHonors Points and HHonors Points Earnings Style and double or triple Base point promotions, will apply to the total Base point credit earned for both rooms. For any other bonuses, including HHonors Marketing Partner Bonus Points and other promotional bonuses, Bonus Points will be awarded on one room only. For purposes of obtaining tier status, a Member may receive one stay credit on one room only. For purposes of earning miles for stays, miles may only be earned on one room only. OTOH some cards provide status in other ways, often by volume of purchases - AMEX Hilton Hhonors Surpass, for example, does. There are specific threads addressing the cards that do this. jamesteroh Jul 15, 12, 4:50 pm AFAIK, the only way to get credit card points to count towards diamond status is if you have the Surpass Am Ex ($75 fee) and you charge $40K in a calendar year. If you charge $40K you get diamond status regardless of how many base points you have earned. travelinfoo Jul 15, 12, 5:44 pm Base points are only earned via hotel stays. They are calculated from 10X room charges ONLY. This includes room rates, room service, hotel restaurant, any service that is OWNED by the hotel (spa, etc). Any hotel taxes (VAT, state, local, etc), service charges, and gratuities are NOT included for basis of points earning OR base points. Many hotels have affiliates located within the hotel (parking, gift shop, etc) that are NOT owned by the hotel. These charges do NOT earn base points (or points toward HHonors points). Promo and bonus points are NOT base points. Anything above and beyond the room charges are NOT base points, e.g., VIP elite bonus, AMEX booking bonus, Q1-4 promos, double dip points, etc. Only base points are used to determine status (bonus points excluded). I support this, with emphasis on whether the non-room services are owned by the hotel - YMMV. Many properties I have been to do include the parking and gift shop in the base points, and I have been to some that do not include the spa and on-site restaurant in the base points. In other words, the inclusions will depend upon the property. 100,000miler Jul 18, 12, 6:27 pm james Very interesting about the Surpass AMEX card. Do you have a link? Do they hold you to the 40k for Diamond Status, what about lower level status. Cheers jamesteroh Jul 18, 12, 7:01 pm james Very interesting about the Surpass AMEX card. Do you have a link? Fee is $75 and you have to have $40K in charges in a calendar year and you get gold status the first year If you reach 20K in spending you will get gold (which you can also get with the no fee Hilton am ex). The hilton fee-free am ex (and IIRC the citi hilton visa) give you silver |
