California - Can someone explain why no SNA-SJC or LGB-SJC flights anymore?

I'm shocked that no one is flying from So Cal to San Jose anymore? I just checked and there are no longer any flights from SNA nor LGB. I have to go to LAX and even then it's a tiny plane on AA or UA. What happened? I used to fly on packed AA MD-90 flights SNA-SJC back in the late 90's and early 2000's.

Well, Yogi Berra would tell you that nobody goes there anymore, because it's too crowded.

Southwest has eight daily frequencies between SNA and SJC, ten between LAX and SJC, eight between BUR and SJC and five between ONT and SJC.

WN does not have any "tiny planes" in its fleet.

It's hardly a case of "no one is flying from So Cal to San Jose anymore."

Thank you very much for both answering my question and pointing me in the right direction. I was checking via ITA which WN doesn't participate in so I didn't see it. I guess WN kicked everyone's butt in this market.

You're welcome.

With thirty-one daily flights from Southern California to San Jose, it would indeed appear as if Southwest has driven out all of its mainline competitors out of that market.

Now I need to decide between Southwest SNA-SJC or Jetblue LGB-SFO. I really need LGB-SJC so I'll have to sacrifice on one end or the other. Or I could just spend 5 hours each way by car. Avis gave me a nice BMW X5. Hmmmm.

There is no way one can drive from LGB to SJC in just five hours, except possibly in the middle of the night while driving at speeds significantly above the speed limits. Don't forget that on the way you'll have to cross Los Angeles County in its entirety from south to north on some of the nation's most congested freeways.

LGB is approximately 20 miles from both SNA and LAX. The distance from SFO to SJC is about one and a half times as long.

GPS says 6:20 and I would leave around 4am and I do have a lead foot. But I don't think I'd need to drive significantly over the limit to make it in 5 hours.

Actually I'd be going to Mt View which is only 27 miles from SFO. And LGB is a much nicer and easier airport than SNA.

You also have flights from LGB/SNA to Oakland too.

The way Southwest does its routing out west....

Seattle/Portland/Spokane/Boise fly to Reno/Sacremento/Okaland/San Jose

Then connect to LA airports and San Deigo

In the airport routing and spoke systme the routing from San Jose to John Wayne snt big with business travelors....Unlike LAX to SF.

You can get toSan Jose via Caltran by flying into SFO.

The distance from LGB or SNA to Mountain View is about 380 miles from both going mostly on interstates/highways so the speed limit would be at least 65 if not higher in the valley...which means you should safely be able to do 70-75. Clock time that would put it at around 5.5 hrs...

I've done San Jose to Burbank as well as San Jose to north LA (the Vet hospital on Wishire) in just over 5h, I want to say around 5:15 and that was with a gas/bathroom break. That's driving 80 or less the whole way.
