My hubby and I were just ugraded (72 hrs out) for PDX to HNL on a 737-800

Most of the FC seats are open expect for row 2. Which row and side is better for flight to HNL. . evening flight.

I think usually the left side has better views while landing. YMMV.

The Google says sunrise at 6 am and sunset about 7:15 pm in Honolulu this time of year. If that's correct, there won't be a view of anything (other than lights of Honolulu) around the time that you'll be landing.

Row 1 --- not much legroom because of the bulkhead, but no recline into your space from the row in front because there isn't one. Typically first choice of meals, but not always.

Row 3 --- I'd rather take this over Row 1 or 4 (if 2 is taken), but I like to stretch my legs out.

Row 4 --- Usually last in choice of meals, but not always. No wall behind you (just a heavy curtain), so sometimes less privacy than one might hope for from folks in coach.

thanks. . .i keep getting sides confused from stuff i've read before (left vs right for flying TO HNL)

Also would row 1 or 3 better? Usually get FC on shorter flights, so just very happy to have Hawaii upgrade. But since we really have our choice I figured I'd ask ;)

So strange at time of upgrade they put us in opposite sides of row 4. .i've got us moved to left side of row 3 now, and yes, not arriving till 9:10 so it'll be dark.

First time to HNL and flying back from LIH (hoping for upgrade there too). . . have only been to Maui before (and usually with family so no FC)

1 or 3 depends on whether you prefer a bulkhead or not. Personally, although no one will recline into you if you're in row 1, I like to have my pack handy under the seat in front of me. Plus in row 1 there is only 1 window, you'll get 2 windows in row 3, although it will be dark.

Left side is better in AND out of HNL. Arriving you get a nice view of Pearl Harbor coming in and departing you'll get a great view of Waikiki (I assume you're flying from HNL to LIH).

Have fun, wish I was going!

Well I've never seen them on that route but I suppose it's possible. Since it will be dark coming in you might as well have a window facing north to give it a shot.

However, on leaving HNL you want to be on the left for sure. Here is a pic of Waikiki I took from the left side.
