Amtrak Guest Rewards - Amtrack shopping portal

Sorry if this has been asked before - Do points earned on the shopping portal count as Tier Qualifying Points to help one get to "select" status?

Normally they do not, however until August 11th, you can earn bonus TQP with purchases made through the shopping portal - 200 TQP for every purchase that isn't in the "Points for Shopping" category (in other words, only the Hotels, Car Renting/Sharing, Air Travel/Cruises, Retail and Gifts, and Financial Services categories apply for this).

Thanks for the info. But I'm still a bit unclear. The points that you earn - they would not be TQP but you would get only 200 TQP per transaction?

I'm trying to fast-track select status (if there is a way). For instance, in retail and gifts:

Earn 5,000 Amtrak Guest Rewards® points when you select Energy Plus® as your electricity provider.

Now you are saying that you would get 5000 points plus 200 TQP for this transaction? Or would all 5000 points be TQP?

If I'm not mistaken, your first question is the correct one. You would get 5200 total points, but only 200 of them are TQP.

Not to threadjack but was wondering if anyone has successfully gotten AGR points for buying Skype credit through the Amtrak Points for Shopping portal. At 36 points/$1, it seems very lucrative although as an existing Skype customer I'm concerned about the terms and conditions listed:

"Skype only rewards on new paying customer sales. Customers earn when an online purchase of SkypeOut, SkypeIn/Voicemail, SkypePro and Country, Global or Regional Plan products within our online store is completed. Customers will earn only on purchases that occur via Skype's website (not Skype Interface)."

Can anyone shed any light on this topic? Thanks!
