I am looking for an easy to set up wireless indoor camera to use as a baby monitor and to be able to see my daughter when I'm traveling if possible...so use on and outside my home network

I'm not nearly as savvy with technology as a lot of you are, but I'm not just a surfer / Word user either.

I bought and returned a Foscam (http://tinyurl.com/7kvhnjc). The install got in a perpetual loop on an Active X install on two different PC's and the instructions were minimally helpful.

Can anyone recommend an easy to set up camera...or is there such a thing?

Go with a Logitech Alert - the new version of the indoor camera includes IR nightlight. They also have iOS and Android apps. Extremely easy to set up, but nowhere near as cheap as the Foscam units.

Needs a little bit of tech finesse. I would suggest reading the most helpful reviews on Amazon.

I've got one of these older-model Linksys webcams
http://www.amazon.com/Cisco-Linksys-WVC11B-Wireless-B-Video-Camera/dp/B00009X6PT
that I'm not using if you want to talk.

Thanks, but unless you have a generous return policy I'll stick w/ Amazon! Thank you though.

One thing I would recommend is turning off the motion detection, or setting it very sensitive - a baby will trigger it all the time otherwise. That said, since it records to MicroSD, you will be able to capture some really nice video of your little one for future use :)

Also, be sure to turn the LED off, unless your child gets a kick out of seeing the light flash every time they move :D

I have been using the D-Link 932L to monitor things at our house when we are gone. One thing I like about it is that when you setup a my dlink account online you can check it via a normal computer webpage or use the iphone or android apps just by logging in and you dont have to do any router/firewall configuration changes which can be difficult for normal users. Also, if you have more than one like I do you can name thema nd you just have one login to the web site and you see all of your cameras and just pick which one you want. The night vision actually works pretty well also.

It is good for the price range it is in.

you might try the new dropcam hd. only about 150$, you get IR (for in the dark) bi-directional audio, video streaming, video recording, motion alerts, etc. It is NOT a baby alert monitor for in the home, you want a cheaper RF product for that.

Do you want just fixed camera, or do you want the ability to pan tilt, and or zoom? Audio or not, and if so one way or two way? Night vision necessary?

There's lots of choices, but depends on exactly what you are trying to do with it.

For a baby i don't think pan tilt is necessary unless the room is very big, night vision is a must.

I first recommend the axis camera, i think is the best. But the other day i say in the apple store a 2 cam box set from phillips, very easy to view on the iPhone and it records a stream to private youtube channel. Preety awesome but haven't tried myself. The name is Philips In.Sight Wireless Home Monitor.

Take care!

I would buy an Axis HD camera

Why? If I am not mistaken, their cheapest HD camera is $500 - and lacks IR night vision mode. Their cheapest night vision camera is $1300.

Axis was once the king of Internet cameras, but nowadays there are much cheaper options.

You may be right, i have some in my office and they are great and have lots of years, but yeah probably now you can find something much cheaper with IR and new features.

Wow, great stuff; thank you all.

Pan, tilt, audio and so on aren't all that intersting for the kid. But I may try to get some of those features in case I want to dual purpose the camera and use it or monitoring the house while traveling. I've got a lot of readng to do! Thank folk!

I ended up buying a couple different cameras that were suggested here. I set up the dropcam, and don't intend to go any further. This thing may not be the best camera in the world but for what I need it for, it works. Moreover, out of the box setup was incredibly simple. Foscam could learn a thing or two from these folks. Piece of cake. Thanks for all of the help folks.

yes, this is the 2nd version of their product. Not only now HD and IR, but they did work a lot on the KISS intall process.

I was actually in the same boat as dingo, and was going to go with a foscam, but after reading this thread I'm planning on picking up a dropcam for the baby room when the little one arrives in a few months. Thanks FT! (insert sitcom thumbs up and cheesy grin here)

Reviews on Google are decidedly mixed. In general it seems that the installation is not foolproof - the product development team took the easy way out and forces you to reboot your PC multiple times, connect and disconnect a cable, etc.

Looking at something like this too. I think you need two solutions: 1) cheap std audio monitor. 2) Logitech security or similar WIFI cam + phone app.
