India-based Airlines - 50% companion discout vouchers by Jet/Citi are useless, do you agree?

So its 50% companion discount on a full fare ticket if both travelers are traveling together. If i want to take a flight with my wife, i will have to pay full fare on my ticket and then 50% of her ticket. This makes sense i guess so far but the caveat is that this has to be on a full fare ticket which means if a DEL BOM flight is costing me 6000 each (one way). I will have to buy a full fare economy ticket which is at least 15000 to get 50% discount on second (which i think is only on the base fare).

So how does this voucher makes sense to any traveler who travels once in a month or so?

I have around 6 of them and i don't think i am going to be able to use them before they expire because every time i tried it, i fall into same trap. So i will be more than happy to send it to anybody who can use them wisely.

i've used them on international flights a couple of times....not much of a saving but a saving nevertheless....

Suxh discounts are meant to encourage you to spend more money, and reward you if you are willing to spend to book in one of tje stipulated classes. They are revenue enhancer, not money saver for most travellers. However if you must travel and no other class is available, it does save you money.

If you need to purchase last minute and there are only full fares available then the vouchers can be useful but how many times have you been left with just full fares availibility.

Thanks for the wishes everyone! A very uneventful birthday day was had yesterday.

As for the JetVouchers, they're not even useful as toilet paper (too rough!).

I have never managed to use one so far in the 3-4 years I have had the card.

Clearly some people find the discount vouchers to be useful. So they are serving the intended purpose, to win loyalty of people who also generate revenue.

Earlier, I look up Award Availability in J, if found, I book the Higher fare class, call and get the upgrade confirmed.

As Jet is getting stingy with Award Availability in premium cabins, I'm not convinced enough to give more revenue for the perceived loyalty.

Now,I vote with my wallet.

I don't believe airlines should enter into credit card alliances that hand out upgrade vouchers for spending spending money. That simply creates more expectations- entitlement- than can be fulfilled and yet maintain fiscal responsibility. Aren't there some credit cards that give a mile/point for every Rs 10?
Upgrade vouchers for BIS miles should be more valuable.
One year, NW had issued upgrades from any fare certificates to platinums and higher. That did not last very long. Upgrades from specified fares are iffy. Inducting elites and issuing upgrade vouchers from credit card activities makes it difficult for every one.
Maybe Jet could give a couple of guaranteed upgrades and keep the other vouchers subject to capacity controls.
ONe year NW also tried upgrading a limited number of Plats, and I think Golds to on a few routes, without a voucher or miles---gratis. People loved it. But it soon turns into an entitlement. Every one,not just Plats and Golds, wants to know if thy have been upgraded.

Loyalty is a complicated thing.
