Next month, I'm flying XXX-EWR-JFK-FRA. I get into EWR at 8am and don't depart JFK until 8pm. So I'm stuck with a 12 hour layover (woe is me... the sacrifices I make to fly SQ).

Ideally, I'd like to get a hotel near EWR or JFK and catch up on sleep. After doing my research, the only hotel I can find that offers dayrooms is the Doubletree JFK. And I don't feel like dropping $139 for what appears to be a crappy, old DT. :td:

I've been to NYC several times, so I don't feel like going EWR-JFK-Manhattan just to store my luggage and then have to make my way back to JFK. I've got a couple UA lounge passes but I have no idea whether the UC is landside or airside. SQ check-in doesn't open until ~4pm so I just need something to do before then.

Anyone have any ideas or things that I might be missing?? I've dealt with long layovers plenty of times, but 12 hours is a new one for me.

Oh, and yes, the SQ ticket is on UA miles courtesy of the systems conversion this past weekend. :D

Did you look online or call properties directly? You should be able to do better than a D/Tree in the $75-100 range by calling specific properties and explaining your specific constraints. If you arrive at 8:00 AM at EWR and are on an 8:00 PM xJFK, you are looking for a hotel room from roughly 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Giving you a room in that time period is relatively easy and most properties can handle those kinds of turnaround without losing a night on either end.

The key is the in-person call with the specific parameters and your flexibility. Don't expect points, freebies and other stuff and be flexible (what if they tell you they really need you out by 5:30 PM and it saves you $50).

I did both-- I called and looked online.

Most places I called (Hilton EWR, Sheraton JFK, Courtyard EWR, and others) were +$100... I'm a broke university student, so I'm trying to find a place somewhat cheap while clean and with a gym/pool... which I understand may be near impossible in NYC.

I'll try calling some other places.

I would pull the gym/pool off the table. For NYC airports, that's pretty luxurious, even though standard elsewhere.
