We are planning to go from Bariloche to Iguazu with a connection at AEP. We will have to fly BRC to AEP on AR 1681 arriving at AEP at 11:10am and connecting to LAN 4026 departing AEP at 12:45. We will have checked bags. Is this enough time? Does AR check bags through to LAN and our final destination? Good idea/bad idea? We are using LAN kms for the AEP-IGU flights.

That should be enough time even if you have to retrieve and recheck your bags. You should talk to AR to find out whether or not they will pass your bags to LAN. If its all on one itinerary they probably will, but if you have seperate itineraries then I'm sure they will not.

Usually it's only same Alliance airlines that'll through check bags on separate tickets although some do have an agreement with other alliance airlines but usually only when booked on the one ticket.
I do have some concern with the connection time. I would much prefer at least a cushion of an extra hour or two just to be on the safe side especially as your travelling on separate tickets.

Thanks for the replies. I called LAN and they said to allow a minimum of 90 minutes to claim checked bags from AR and then recheck them on LAN. The current itinerary allows 95 minutes. Not much extra time in case there is a flight delay. Our alternative is to travel from BRC to BA the night before and overnight there and take an early flight from AEP to IGU but I would like to keep the current itinerary. I'm not sure what to do.

Yes under normal conditions and flying with a reputable airline you would have ample time.
However.....you are flying the BRC-AEP sector on AR who do not operate like a normal airline hence the reason why I think an extra cushion of an hour or two would be sensible.
For instance Flightstats reveals that so far todays AR flights from BRC have landed 77, 20 and 40 mins late with the last flight estimated at being 30 mins late.....and that's on a good day. :D
