Check in online from home and get upgraded to Business Class!
Check in online is not only convenient but also rewarding. Stand a chance to get upgraded to Business Class on your trip when you check in online from home during the period of 1-31 July 2012.

How it works:

1. Visit KLM.co.id from 30 hours up to 1 hour before the departure.

2. Click check in online. Enter your personal details and choose your seat.

3. Present your printed A4 boarding pass at “Baggage Drop-off” counter, Row 53-54 at CGK airport. You are automatically entered into the daily draw.

4. The lucky passenger’s name will be announced the boarding gate.

Terms and conditions: Only valid for departure from Jakarta. Daily upgrade from Economy class to Business Class will be chosen randomly for one passenger with his/her travel companion.

This sounds like it's for everyone, regardless of elite status, fare class, award ticket or not, etc. It also seems to give equal chances to people traveling together, including families, although I presume the usual rules about children needing a parent or other adult in their cabins would still apply.

Interesting approach... (especially in view of the other complaints in this forum about operational upgrades being a lottery, rather than prioritised based on status, booking-class, etc).

However, it seems that this is just a one-off, for one month - presumably to encourage people to use online check-in. (I'm sure I've seen other promotional tactics in other markets, to try to increase take up of OLCI - but I don't think I've heard of an upgrade lottery being used for that purpose elsewhere...) I would therefore assume that, until now, Indonesia has had relatively low usage of OLCI.
