If I buy US AIrways Y ticket separately , departing from LAS to EWR, can or will the US check in at LAS tag my luggage to connect to SQ21? IM arriving at 9:30 am, and SQ21 will depart only at 2300H. Theres no way I can stay at the airport for that long wait. ANy ideas? ANybody tried the same scenario on any US Airways flight to EWR?

As this question relates to an originating US Airways flight and based on US Airways restrictions and rules, it is best if asked over at the US forum.
Thanks!

Not sure if you can check your bags through... the issue would be connecting to an int'l flight. My guess is you can check your bags through and make sure to bring your SQ confirmation # AND ticket # for the US agent.
As far as what to do all day, it's NYC... walk around central park, eat pizza, catch a broadway matinee, get a huge deli sandwich and head back to the airport ... or figure out another few things to do--tons of options in NYC.

If you have both confirmation numbers when you check in at LAS you should be able to throughcheck no problem.
As far as NYC goes there's tons of stuff to do that's absolutely free or relatively low cosh: Staten Island Ferry, Central Park, New York Public Library, Museum of Natural History is a pay what you can donation, or if there's a Yankees or Mets afternoon game you can usually get walk up bleacher or standing room tickets for under $20.

thanks for the replies.
ANyway, the trouble if LAS check in wont tag my luggage to my international connection on SQ ( I just called them, they said, its a separate ticket,so no baggage check thru or maybe its just a standard answer), then I will be doomed at EWR from 9 am untill 2300H since I cant drag my luggage to Manhattan or I have no idea where to leave it. The airport, ironically doesnt have left luggage based on my research. The left luggage at Penn Station is apparantly only for those holding a train ticket or whatever.I ran out of options :( Any more ideas?

I found this old thread in the pre-merger CO forum regarding luggage storage at EWR:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/continental-onepass-pre-merger/700152-there-luggage-storage-ewr.html
If the left luggage place in terminal C isn't open, I like the suggestion of leaving it at a hotel; especially if you have status with one, that would probably be a good option.
And there's a ton of info on how to get to, what to do in NYC over in the dedicated NYC forum here on Flyertalk:

Doesn't Penn Station still have a left luggage facility?

Once you arrive and get your bags, why can't you just recheck them in with the next flight?

Check in may not be open that early....
I often check in at LAS or PHX or ABQ with US/UA.. and don't recall ever having a problem getting the agents to check the bags right through to SYD - even though LAX-AKL-SYD is a separate NZ ticket...
Hard to see why through checking to SQ should be any different? (I still have to present the claim checks and get my NZ BP's at LAX.. but that's hardly a drama)

Did they tell you why you couldn't check through? I've done it several times, including Delta to Emirates, PIT-JFK-DBX-BOM on separate tickets just a month or so ago.

I agree. I've never had US refuse to do this -- even to airlines that aren't partners. I've done it dozens of times.
I wouldn't worry about the answer you received over the phone.

The big question is whether the two airlines have a through check agreement. IIRC, SQ has a throughcheck agreement with every *A carrier and even some unlikely ones such as WN and NK.

thank you for all the replies. It seems there's plenty of first hand experience even on different alliance. ANd US of course is *A, so theoretically I should be fine.Im good to proceed as planned.
