around the new CP Potsdamer Platz like and going as a tourist how does the area compare to the IC.

I like very much IC Berlin.

Still, it is around Mitte that most trendy places are located.

The HIX between Zoo and Potsdamer Platz is much better than the average for the brand, has excellent staff and good public transport links for bus and metro. Mind you, in my case a *very* attractive corporate rate helps as well!

I really loved the IC.

But far from everything you want to visit as a regular tourist. But I keep going back to the IC.

Not sure where the CP is xactly, but Pots Platz is a great place for tourists, walkable to almost everything. IC is a bit more out of the way, albeit not disastrously so.

The new CP will be a fair walk to Potsdammerplatz,it is actually next to the Anhalter Bahnhof. The hotel looks very nice but I'm not so keen on the location, though you have the S bahn in the station and taxis are fairly cheap and plentiful
I'm quite happy with the IC and its location.

Do yourself a favour and avoid the Holiday Inn Express Berlin City Centre (on Stresemannstrasse).

Whilst I liked the hotel itself (and the breakfast was good for a HIX too) they have serious administration issues. They claimed we had checked in on the wrong date for a prepaid stay (which we hadn't) and then tried to charge me extra on checkout. They backed down, only for me to find a substantial unauthorised charge was put on my card on the day of check-out.

Getting my money back was not straightforward (I was about to dispute the transaction with my CC issuer) and no compensation for the hassle was offered.

I won't be back at that property!

OK, the CP Potsdamer Platz is actually not in Potsdamer Platz, and more importantly, it is not open. In fact, it is facing some serious delays. It was suppose to open up this month, but I don't think that it will be ready until the winter. The new HI and Indigo in Alexanderplatz are nice hotels and priced quite reasonably compared to the CP and IC near the Ku'damm. And you can't beat the transportation options there.

I stayed at HI Berlin Mitte (about 95% sure it was Mitte) a few years ago and really liked it except for the underground parking area. VERY tight turning ramp going down and very difficult to do in a full sized car (Mercedes C-Class) without a spotter.

I'm spending a few nights in the IC Berlin next month and am really looking forward to it!
