I have been looking for some time for 'the best' messenger style bag to use on my international travels as a 'personal item' to decant myself in to at security and also during long flights for quick access to items needed in flight.
I think I found it - the Timbuk2 Commute messenger. I ordered the 2011 model a while back and was very happy with it.
Then they came out with the updated 2012 model which had a few improved features (for me at least) and I ordered that too.
When the new 2012 bag arrived the wrong size was sent (I wanted small and medium was sent). So I fired off an e-mail to Timbuk2 and within twelve hours I got an e-mail saying a new bag in small size was on the way to me and to keep the medium bag anyway.
You can't get much better than that. Great bags and great service!
Congratulations Timbuk2.

I've been eyeing the timbuk2 command 2012 myself, although the commute is a close runner up for me. Of course, in the bay area timbuk2 bags are everywhere...

Timbuk2 is a brand that has been gaining more and more of my business over the past 15 months. Before that, I'd never used their products, now they're my favorite travel bag/accessories company.

I have quite a few pieces of Timbuk2. They refuse to wear out. Tough too.
A lot of people that like Timbuk2, also like Crumpler.

I've used the same Timbuk2 messenger for the past five years and it's never had any problems. Zippers and velcro are still working like they did the first week. I also have the self-stuffing Hidden messenger bag (which it doesn't look like they sell any more) and the Bender backpack (which, with some packing cubes, can handle a four night city-exploring trip).

If you have one of these, or other TSA approved bags, can your really leave your laptop in the bag, or do you get grief from the agent on the ground? How about outside the US do foreigh airports allow you to leave the laptop in the bag?
Just had co-worker leave her laptop at security, she got it back but it took a week and half. I have never done that, but it made me think about a TSA bag..

I've flown through many airports with my TSA-friendly backpack. TSA allows it to stay in the bag. Germans do not.

Thanks, My co-worker lost her laptop at FRA, as she got the extra search going through security.... They are always very thorough in German...
