Don't you have to pay ATM withdrawal fee? I don't think they have my bank in Paris. :) LizzyDragon84 Jul 12, 12, 6:29 am Don't you have to pay ATM withdrawal fee? I don't think they have my bank in Paris. :) Yes, I pay an ATM fee. Most currency exchange places also charge a fee, so I consider it a wash. Most of my trips are a week or less, so I usually stop by the airport ATM on arrival and get the cash I need for the week. BigLar Jul 12, 12, 7:56 am Definitely use an ATM card. You'll get the best conversion rate and there are ATM's throughout Europe. Your PIN is numeric. If you have memorized a four-letter word to use your ATM and expect the keypad to have letters on it (like a phone keypad) you'd be wrong. Make sure you know the numeric PIN. Good idea to let your bank know you'll be in Europe and when, otherwise they might refuse the transaction as suspicious, and you'll be in a world'o'hurt. I don't think they have my bank in Paris. :)Doesn't matter. Almost all banks are members of one "alliance" or another. Look at your ATM card - it should have something like Cirrus or Star or maybe others. The ATM will have stickers on it showing which networks they support. I'd be quite surprised if your network wasn't supported. aamilesslave Jul 12, 12, 1:12 pm Don't you have to pay ATM withdrawal fee? I don't think they have my bank in Paris. :) I don't, not with my ING Direct Electric Orange debit card. There are also ATM alliances with some banks, like BofA & BNP Paribas. slawecki Jul 12, 12, 4:13 pm Don't you have to pay ATM withdrawal fee? I don't think they have my bank in Paris. :) there are financial institutions that are atm withdrawal free. etrade is atm free and charges 1% on the currency exchange. gerardandrew007 Jul 12, 12, 4:41 pm If you have an ATM card connected with your bank in your country ask them if they have an arrangement with a bank/banks in France where you can use your ATM card in their partner bank in France and not pay a fee. For example, I have a Bank of America account in the US. B of A has partnerships with Barclays and BNP Paribas so I can use my B of A card in either of those 2 banks when I am in the UK or France and get a straight exchange rate with no fees. Check with your bank! |
