I saw some crazy prices looking for a September trip DCA-MCO.

Can't do a screen cap from work, unfortunately, but here's the pricing:

Nonstop (with booking code) one way:

Restricted Y (K): 88
Flexible Y (Q): 491
Restricted F: Not available
Flexible F (A): 345

Throw in an connection and it gets crazier (also one way):

Restricted Y (R): 105
Flexible Y (N): 501
Restricted F (first segment in N, second in A, via CLT): 1156
Flexible F (A) : 455

Pricing makes absolutely no sense. For anything other than restricted Y ticket, who in their right mind would pay for Flex Y/Restricted F when you can get a refundable F that cheap? Especially with the restricted F with an RJ segment costing more on that way than for what you can buy a whole F trip?

BWI makes a little more sense, at least for Y pricing, but F is still pricing out at 2x more for restricted F than refundable F.

Amazing.

Dates I used were 9/13 and 9/18, btw.

That seems to be reasonably common this summer. Just for grins, I looked at PHL-SFO for a phantom midweek trip leaving next week (prices one way):

Restricted Y: $398
Flexible Y: $898
Restricted F: $778
Flexible F: $678

This is a strange pricing strategy.

My company has a policy that requires me to fly in refundable Y. However, I don't think they'd balk at me asking to fly in F fares like these. :D

I am in the same boat, which is how I noticed this pricing strategy to begin with. I figure that I am covered if I get the travel agent to insert a note on the invoice that flexible F is less than flexible Y.

I'm just waiting for this to happen on a route that I fly for work. :D
