I did a search, and found some info, but not exactly what I was looking for. Basically, my wife and I are flying SFO-SIN in business on the new 777-300ER and are trying to decide which seats to get. I was initially aiming at 11 D/F or 12 D/F or 14 D/F. However, a friend told me that the 2 seats are quite far apart. That, together with how the partition is setup and how the seat reclines back, it is very difficult/awkward to converse with whoever is sitting next to you. He then recommended we take 2 window seats, one in front of the other. So, as of right now, I have booked seats 14 A and 15 A.
What do you think? Should I stick with 2 window seats, or should we go with the D/F seats (hopefully row 11, 12, or 14 is still available)? Are the middle seats set up in such a way that you can easily talk to each other? Or do you really have to lean forward quite a bit to be able to talk?
Also, is there a way so that one person can sit on the foot rest across from the other person so you can eat/drink together?
Thanks in advance!

All middle seat seats are 2 together. You can talk to each other, but not so when its fully reclined. And why would you want to converse with each other when seat is reclined into a bed?

i know they're together. thats not what i asked. i asked whether or not the seat setup made it awkward/difficult as this is what a friend has mentioned to me. also, i obviously did not mean reclined into a bed, but just reclined still in the sitting position. if it is awkward/difficult, would we just be better off getting 2 window seats?

I never had trouble conversing with my neighbours when I have middle seats. It depends how badly one wants to talk.
But I really cannot imagine how it is possible two seated passengers, on two windows seats that are on different (albeit consecutive) rows, can talk to each other without letting the entire cabin hear their conversation.
In fact, I do not know who is seating behind me at all until I stand up.

There is no seat ottoman available. The foot rest in this case is a thin plank meant solely for the feet.

lol, sorry for the confusion... i meant if it was hard to talk in the 2 middle seats, then we might as well forget about talking, and get 2 window seats.

thanks for this info! i think i will switch from the 2 window seats to the 2 middle seats. i think even if we CAN'T converse that well, the Mrs. wants to be seated next to me so she has the option (while i tune her out and watch tv lol)

Jukaks have just returned from Europe with wifey on 77W - IMHO you far better off with D/F combo than 2 window seats.
I saw a very high profile Aust couple seated front / behind in K seats on MEL-SIN leg - that poor old husband was up and down out of his seat like a yo yo trying to hear / talk / please his cheese and kisses.
I had headphones on - only needed to hear what Cruiserette said to me when I wanted to hear - you are close enough to indulge in conversation but too segregated to get dangled up in that cuddle me lovey dovey stuff - will not interfere with your drinking and movie watching.
Again IMHO opinion perfect seats.

One 77W flight I was on, a couple spent most of the flight in the SAME seat, watching the movie on his screen. She must have synchronized her movie to start at the same time!

THANK YOU! this was exactly the type of info i was looking for. i have now changed our seats to 11 D/F (luckily they were still available). its gonna be the Mrs's first time in business class, and i'm kinda excited to show her the wonders of "turning left". that being said, i'm glad its close enough to talk, but far enough to have some space.

LOL that could be awkward for the surrounding people ;)

Be aware that the bulkhead seats on the 77W have their TV screens somewhat 'higher' than eye level and are a little further than the other seats. It sometimes makes it difficult to watch the screen as its not directly in front of you!

Hmm, would you recommend row 12 then over 11?

The way the SQ business class seats are set up is that you sleep diagonally when the bed is set up. The only exceptions are the bulkhead where you may sleep 'straight'... but you have to put up with the higher bulkhead.
Just go with the bulkhead first.. and if you find that the screen bothers you, and if your flight isn't full, you may move to another row of middle seats. Chances are that there are still seats available.

I'd go with Row 11. I don't like the angled sleeping position.

I'd go with Row 11. I don't like the angled sleeping position.
I would also go for row 11. It is simply more private in an already private small cabin. I also did not notice the TV screen problem highlighted.

Do you mean that the seats in row 12 are not fully flat? Or that they are turned a certain way? Sorry never been on one of these!

All J class on the 77W are fully flat. What is meant by diagonally is that you lay down diagonally in relationship with the seat in front of you. When made into the bed, your head will lay down in one corner on one side of the seat, while your feet extend to the opposite corner on the other side of your bed. This maximizes space for SQ, as the length of the bed now is not the seat pitch but greater: the diagonal distance (say the southwest corner of the seat area to the northeast corner).
Why some people don't like this for sleeping has always baffled me. While its true this position is forced because you have a footwell that your feet must extend into, and that the same footwell from the seat behind you also forces you to lay your head to one side of the bed, when you are asleep, what does it matter? I still get great sleep and ample room and I am a big guy. What baffles me is once you fall asleep, why does it matter at all that your sleeping position happens to be diagonal in relation to the seat back in front of you? How can you even tell, while asleep?

As mentioned by other posters, you can't really chat when seated in two window seats together, front and behind each other. My wife and I like having window seats, or at least being close to a window and just forgo long on board conversations, getting two window seats in front/behind. Works well, as we spend most of our time on long hauls watching movies or sleeping anyways. I figure we have every other normal day to be chatty with each other anyways. If I feel chatty, I go sit next to her in her seat to catch up a bit --- I love how big SQ J seats are, probably the best anywhere. But this all depends on your personal situation I guess.
As for row 11/12 (mini cabin). I also never understood the desire for this cabin. Yes, more privacy, sure. But, I find that section to feel cramped -- it is a small small cabin. Perhaps I also dont see the value of that extra privacy. Privacy from what exactly anyways? The seats are already quite private. Unless someone is standing directly next to, or in front/behind your seat or across the aisle, they can't really see, nor can you see them.

Thx for the thorough response. Good to know they're all flat. I admit I like the idea of the mini cabin as a "selling feature" to the sig other

I would defenitly go for middle seats in the first row of the second cabin section. I think row 16. You can fold down the small couch in front of you, so both can have a little conversation over drink. Great!
