Spain/Portugal/Gibraltar - speeding ticket in spainView Full Version : speeding ticket in spain shulyvorhand Jul 11, 12, 1:58 am i got a letter from spain about a speeding ticket i got last year and never paid - it is all in spanish so cant read, anyone had any experience in this - do i need to pay? bankops Jul 11, 12, 2:35 am The legal response to the question is of course yes, you should pay. Now for the not so legal discussion. Do you live in the EU, travel often to the EU or plan on ever driving again in Spain during your lifetime, then you should pay. If you answered no to all of the questions above, then you might get away with not paying, especially if it wasn't a rental. My father is 88, a US resident and has no intention of ever driving in Italy again. He didn't pay, but then his were municipal fines for driving down bus only streets. keisari Jul 14, 12, 8:26 pm If you received a ticket while driving a rented car, they may go back and charge your credit card - it is written somewhere in the fine print. I have had tickets in a couple of cities - not for speeding though. I wrote a nice letter apologizing and saying I did not know any better. I did not get an answer in one of them and the other sent me a letter I did not have to pay. Never had a problem. If I would get a moving violation ticket - I would pay it and get it over with. As far as spanish, just type it into google translate and you will get a reasonably good version in English Scan it and PM it to me and I will translate it for you slawecki Jul 14, 12, 10:01 pm if the ticket is from the north east(Barcelona), is it in spanish, or catalonian? my wife does catalonian. keisari Jul 15, 12, 10:47 am if the ticket is from the north east(Barcelona), is it in spanish, or catalonian? my wife does catalonian. Technically speaking there is no spanish language: it is Castilian or another one like Catalan, Gallego, Euskadi What we in the US say is Spanish is it mostly Castilian with some words from other languages including arabic. GK Jul 26, 12, 4:49 am the fine goes up to Euro 300 if you delay payment. These are politically correct niceties that are expected from someone living in Spain (and only in certain regions in Spain for that). But worldwide nobody has problem with calling "Castellano" just plain Spanish. AC110 Aug 13, 12, 1:45 pm  Come on... please... I've learned something I didn't known. keisari Aug 13, 12, 8:23 pm  But worldwide nobody has problem with calling "Castellano" just plain Spanish. No need to roll your eyes........... It is not a problem calling the language Spanish but in reality it is still Castillian. I have heard the term Castellano used over and over during my 20+ years of living in South American. |
