Hilton HHonors - Status Match Question
Does Hilton ever match status in other programs? I think I will not re-qualify for diamond this year but did qualify for Spg platinum. I prefer Hilton, but have not been able to stay at too many Hiltons this year due to work reasons. Are there any short cuts to requalifying as a diamond? I wish Hilton had lifetime status levels like Spg and Marriott.

If you have already been a Diamond, you will not be status matched. However, Hilton often gives a Diamond challenge to those who have fallen off from Diamond recently.

It sounds like I have to wait until I lose my status and then meet a challenge.

Since you won't qualify for HH Diamond this year, perhaps you can try a challenge from another hotel chain while your HH status is still good? I did a Hyatt challenge earlier this year. Had to do 12 nights in 60 days or something like that. Way too easy. In turn this will give you more fire power when requesting to get back to Diamond status with HH. You'll have elite status with more than one program.
That is exactly what I was wondering. I did a Starwood challenge and made Platinum for this year and next. I was wondering if there was a way by showing I was SPG Platinum it would help me retain my Diamond status. However, I don't see how it can. It only seems like I have to wait until I lose my status to get it back through a challenge, right? Can you think of a way I can use it to retain my Diamond status?

You have already made Diamond before. You made SPG plt which means you were capable of being Diamond. Since you made Diamond before, you can make it again. Why would you expect them to grant you Diamond when you CHOSE SPG over Hilton? Making SPG plt does NOT = making Diamond, too, if you did not requalify by their standards.
In all honesty, it looks like you want something for nothing. You can make Diamond but chose not to.
I think the best you can hope for is a Diamond challenge. Previous posters have reported that Hilton will NOT grant a status match to those who had Diamond previously.
I do not want something for nothing. I am a very loyal Hilton person. One year I even spent 105 nights at Hiltons. I wish Hilton had lifetime status like SPG and Marriott. Earlier this year I had to stay somewhere where there was no Hilton just a Starwood Hotel. I called SPG and I identified myself as a Hilton Diamond member and was offered a challenge to make SPG Platinum. I made it. I wish Hilton would do the same. the problem is that it does not appear there is such a thing as a challenge to retain Diamond. It sounds like I can only get a challenge if I have no status or after I lose my status. Does that sound right?
