Other Hotel Programs - LaQuinta and Chase card termination

I received a letter from Chase Bank advising that the LQ Chase card relationship would be terminated in September 2012, and that my existing LQ card would be converted to a Chase "Freedom" card. I have not found the Freedom card to be particularly advantageous, and will instead cancel the account after the LaQuinta contract ends.
Has anyone received information on a new LQ card with a different bank?

It's a no-fee card with quarterly 5% bonuses. Good for keeping credit utilization low, occasional 5% bonuses, and as available credit if necessary to get approved for something else.
Not really many good reasons to cancel.

I use all of my cards to accumulate points for free travel or hotel stays, paying all in full each month, so the issues of monthly interest rates, low credit utilization or as available credit to get approved for something else are not benefits that I need or want. My understanding of the freedom card was that the redeemable points are a significantly lower value ($$ spent per points received) than points accumulated by company specific cards (i.e.- Amtrak Mastercard or SWA Visa). If there is some other advantage to the Freedom card that I'm overlooking, I would be happy to learn about it.

Freedom points (when you don't have any of the other "special" Chase cards) are worth 1 cent each.
In your context, there is exactly one benefit, then. Every quarter a few categories are 5% back. Are you really earning 5 cents per mile value out of your other cards?
If you were to max out the spending in those categories, it's $300 per year, compared to 6000 - 12000 points/miles, depending on the earn rates. May or may not be worth the trouble.

What happens to the LaQuinta points you have earned for free night stays on the old card? That's a pretty sudden termination.

La Quinta Returns points will remain unchanged, and presumably all points earned on the Chase LQ card will be posted to your LQ Returns account as of the termination of that contract on September 20.
LaQuinta Returns has now sent out a letter advising members of the termination of the Chase Bank contract. The letter indicates that, after the Chase relationship ends, members will receive information about a new banking relationship and opportunity to secure a new LaQuinta Returns credit card.

The Chase Freedom basically earns Ultimate Reward "Lite" points. They are, as MDtR-Chicago said, worth 1 cent each. However, if you have any of the premium Ultimate Rewards Cards from Chase (e.g. Sapphire Preferred, Ink Bold) you can transfer your points earned on the Chase Freedom card to multiple rewards programs (United, British Air, Hyatt, etc). Most of the premium cards have offers where the annual fee is waived for the first year.
It's really a good card to have around.

You're right... plus, if you have a Chase checking account, the Freedom then earns an extra (10% + 10) points per charge, and it can all be turned into miles.
