We are doing a week long surf trip and have our first 3 days at witches rock sc. On the 28th we will be without pre-determined lodging but will be looking for cheap and by the water (no hostels with 12 to one bathroom). Anyone have suggestions or warnings they want to share for the area? We will be looking for a room sat 28th through the 1st of august.

Thanks!

There's a Best Western for under $70. Or, you can have a private room with private bathroom at Hostel Pura Vida each night for $35 or at Backpackers Hostel for $55. Even when I stayed at La Botella de Leche Hostel it was a private bathroom in a room for 4 at $12 each.

As for warning...there are lots of seedy and drunk people so stay away from walking alone at night.

Thanks for info... Looks like a quarter mile walk to the beach from hpv.. Is that a pretty easy walk? In nica last year a quater mile walk was straight up and down a mtn! Looks like a good place judging by pics.

These hostels are only a few minutes walk from the beach.

Do an internet search for hotels in the area and email them all asking for special deals. I was in Playa Grande recently and it was nearly deserted. Playa Grande is a long drive from Tamarindo as you have to drive around the estuary but it's only about a 1 km walk up the beach.

How many of you are there? Another option would be VRBO.com for a house. A lot of the renters have availability calenders and if you see they are vacant for a month or two they may be more open to negotiate. I did that last year and got a great house about 2 blocks from the beach in Playa Langosta, just next to Tamarindo.

It shows 25 mins to get to playa grande on google maps... Is that pretty accurate?
