I fly out of IAD generally, but I want to fly SQ 21/22 on my next trip to SIN. I can't find connections from or to IAD/DCA from those flights. I've looked on SQ's, UA's and other websites. Suggestions?

Other booking websiteseg travelocity, expedia etc ... or else a TA. As SQ does not codeshare with UA, you can't use their site, and SQ's website is so hopeless that it is not possible to book other airlines on it.

A few months ago, I could book an SQ flight from EWR to LHR to SIN on expedia.
The EWR-LHR leg was on Virgin metal, but SQ codeshare. LHR-SIN was on SQ metal. On Expedia, the whole itenerary was showing as booked on SQ ( so I could get SQ Krisflyer miles for the Virgin flight too) and the fare was very attractive. SQ would not book the same flights for me themselves. Just a point of reference for you.

Op wanted to know about UA ...! His question was connecting from Washington DC to SQ 21/22.

Your answer is irrelevant to question but thanks for letting us know anyway.

This still shows up on ITA, but oddly SQ21/22 (and furthermore SQ37/38) do not...

I just got off from SQ 21 yesterday, starting my trip from Washington, DC. I used to live in DC and have done SQ 21/22 to and from SIN about 6 times starting from the DC area. I used to fly UA from IAD-EWR for the connection - one of those UA feeder flights out of the cramped A gates in IAD. After too many close calls of missing the connection when my flight into EWR was delayed due to weather or air traffic related ground stops/traffic management programs, I felt that it was smarter to just take the Amtrak NE regional from Union Station to Newark. If the winds pick up or are in a specific direction, as they were two days ago, as I understand it, arrivals into Newark get significantly delayed because the traffic patterns for LGA and/or JFK overlap and force runway closures or arrivals at a slower pace.

Amtrak isn't immune to delays, but I find it to be more reliable for getting to EWR. I find it less vulnerable to weather related delays. When all goes well, the train only takes 3 hours and... and you start from in town, at DC Union Station and arrive into the Newark airport stop, which connects directly to the airport Airtrain to take you to your terminal, so I would usually get there in the same amount of time or slightly less, but more reliably on time and with less hassle. Also, when you travel via Amtrak, you have more options if problems crop up. You can refund your ticket and jump on a later train (departing hourly, usually) at any time. Given this opton, I give myself some extra time for some insurance of taking a later train. I also have the freedom to refund and take any of many bus lines to NYC departing from Union Station, if something more major was delaying trains. When flying, you generally don't have many options if your flight is delayed into the New York area but waiting and hoping your flight gets called before too late. I hated that lack of control.

Consider Amtrak next time for your IAD-EWR-IAD leg. I have done this the last three or four times flying SQ 21 and had no issues. In fact, a long time ago I switched from flying to Amtrak whenever going to and from DC to the NYC area too and I have not regretted it.

(If I remember correctly, there are flights to EWR via DCA too. Maybe on USAirways? I don't think there are feeder flights that are codeshared. however, SQ 21/22 are codeshared with USAirways).

Many websites are limited in the number of connections they will show. My suggestions are to check Orbits or Expedia.

if that won't work, call Singapore Airlines and ask for the IAD-EWR leg to be on UA metal (UA flight #...doesn't have to be SQ flight #.)

Or else work through a 3rd party travel agent like AMEX.

Plenty of ways to do it all on one record locator / ticket.

.

Compounded by premium cabin (domestic US) being mainly called "First" and SQ only offering "Business" on SQ21. I guess UA now do sell Business domestically is that correct? If not, it can be difficult sometimes to force websites into bringing up mixed class itineraries.
