DiningBuzz! - I hate self-assemble salads (when the ingredients aren't chopped up/mixed)

I don't get the point of them. Last weekend I ordered a cobb salad (one of my favorites) at a restaurant. It comes out with a bed of lettuce and on top are three full strips of bacon, four slices of chicken (about five inches long, kind of like what you'd find on a sandwich), two large chunks of cheese and two cracker sized pieces of croutons. In one corner are a pile of sliced tomatoes and in another corner the olives. I guess I'm supposed to chop all this up and mix it together and then pour the dressing on. But I don't WANT to do this! I figure that if I pay $13.99 for the salad, they should at least assemble the thing for me.

Anyone else with me? or am I just a whiner?

I don't care for that either. :)

I actually prefer it that way.

I'm sure if you asked they would have been glad to mix it up for you.

They are guessing how people want it. Half the time they will probably guess wrong.

Yesterday I paid 9.50 for a salad that was chopped but came with still frozen chunks of avocado. Returned it for one that wasn't frosted over. the idea that someone can make it in front of me and pass it off with frozen chunks is pretty nasty.

I prefer to assemble my own and I want the dressing on the side.

I'd be ok with it if I didn't have to cut everything.

I want the dressing on the side too, but I'd prefer that everything is chopped in advance.

Careful on the wording if you ask them to "chop" it for you. Many places actually offer a chopped salad which to me is essentially colorful coleslaw with no dressing. Don't let them mince it unless that's truly what you want.

Anyone else with me? or am I just a whiner?Maybe next time then can run it through the blender for a few minutes and bring out a straw, saving you the need to even lift your hands. :p
