US Airways Dividend Miles - CLT-LGW service reduced this winter

For anyone who may have flights booked CLT-LGW this winter -- such as those of us with low season FF tickets :) -- US looks to have reduced their service on that route to 6x per week.

The Tu LGW-CLT and We CLT-LGW flights appear to be gone from the schedule. I'm a bit surprised they're leaving the A330 in LGW for the day rather than in CLT, but I presume that makes more sense for their schedule.

The CLT-LGW-CLT route also now seems to be an A330-200, while I think it had been scheduled for a -300. (thus fewer available Envoy seats)

Of course, I had CLT-LGW booked outbound on a Wednesday, so my nice non-stop CLT-LGW is now a connection to LHR through PHL. At least going this way, I can look forward to the *A arrivals lounge at LHR. However, I'd been looking forward to the CLT-LGW flight since it gives me more time to sleep and avoids the risk of making a connection in PHL in the winter.

That's very odd to leave a plane in LGW for a full day. I wouldn't be surprised if this schedule changes again.

Oooh maybe they could use the aircraft to continue on from LGW for a quick day-trip somewhere? Moscow? Copenhagen? Dubai?

OK back to the real world....

Its a new perk for the flight crew :-> They get an extra day in London!

Actually it's not a perk for the crew. They usually do stay 24 hours and then take the next day's flight back. Now the plane will remain there as long as they do.

I'm glad they kept it as a A330 though rather than downgrade to a 767. I hope this isn't a sign of future cuts on the CLT to LGW route in the winter.

LGW probably has quite cheap parking in the winter, and now in direct competition with LHR probably offered US a good deal. As far as I recall US is the only USA based airline that remains at LGW.

I think the OP has it backwards. A quick look at FEB of 2013 shows they have eliminated CLT-LGW on some Mondays with the next day Tuesday LGW-CLT dropped. They also have some Tuesday CLT-LGW eliminated with the next day Wednesday LGW-CLT dropped. So no A330 will sit for 24 hours in London...

Ah, it seems the skipped day varies from week to week - silly me, expecting US to make the change consistent from week to week. I was looking at CLT-LGW canceled on Wednesday, 01/23 and LGW-CLT canceled on Tue, 01/29. However, it turns out that the previous week it's the Thu 01/24 LGW-CLT flight that's canceled. So you're right that it looks like the A330 isn't being left at LGW overnight after all. My bad.

Maybe since Rio is upgrading to the 330, that is why...or some of the reasoning.
