Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a ticket over the Xmas/New Year from Auckland to Singapore on Jetstar. Would be interested in any good/bad reviews. I've never flown on a budget airline long haul, however, the fare difference between Jetstar and Singapore Airlines/Qantas is approx $700.
How comfortable is Jetstar long haul? Also, would I be able to buy food and eat on the plane?
I read that Jetstar uses Terminal 1 as opposed to the Budget Terminal in Singapore. Could someone kindly confirm that?
Cheers

Having flown both SQ and Jetstar AKL-SIN, and also on both carriers long long-haul a few times, I think Jetstar long-haul on the A330 is actually quite good for the money. I would suggest that you buy the plus pack, which include food, since it's a 11-12 hour flight, so you'll most definitely be getting food one way or another.
Having said that, the food, services, and entertainment (especially on the newer 77W) on SQ is significantly superior to Jetstar. However, in terms of space, they are roughly similar.
And yes, Jetstar uses terminal 1 in SIN. Have to say though, the budget terminal here these days isn't too shabby. Still, given the growth in budget airlines in SIN, they are pulling it down, and building a completely new terminal in its place. Hence, the airlines from the budget terminals would be moved to terminal 2 during the building phase.
Personally, with $700 difference, I would take Jetstar and save the cash.

cheers for that. i will bear that in mind next time.
decided to go with emirates instead of jetstar. jetstar was only $200+ cheaper though the emirates flight has a 8 hour stopover in brisbane both ways which is less than ideal. but i think i rather put up with that than fly jetstar for now.

Eight hour layover is worth a $200+ saving? I can think of a lot I can do with that $200+, rather than spending it on the ground somewhere.

8 hour layover sounds like a quick day trip in BNE.... Why not!

Flew Jetstar on the route last year and it was pretty decent (actually bordering on good) for the price paid. With all the added frills, it felt just like any other full-service airline! And I think the seats could even be more comfortable than EK's 3-4-3 configured 777s.

So long as you don't have to be at your destination at a particular time, or indeed day, I believe Jetstar offers reasonable value.
