Hi all -

I just googled, and I guess the 2012 Fireworks had a technical glitch and all went off at once. Assuming they fix that problem in 2013, is there a points accessible property that might be good? Any have on property access that could offset the need to hold a place all day?

I have sufficient points in Marriott, Hilton, Club Carlson and Hyatt. Are any properties noted for blackouts around the 4th?

It would be a family trip and the kids would be 7 & 4. We would be planning on the usual sites like zoo/seaworld/legoland. Round out the week with some beach and pool time (a good kids pool is a plus). We'd probably rent a car, although the double whammy of rental fees and parking at some properties is a bummer.

Really, any hotel on the bay should be fine - if you look at the map on bigbayboom.com you can see that they have several barges around the bay, which would give you an idea of where you'd have a good view.

We booked a room at the Grand Hyatt for this year, and although we had a great view from our room, we would also have been able to see the show from the pool deck and the Grand Club. I think most properties had similar options.

Off the top of my head, I'd think that the Marriott Coronado or Marquis, the Hilton Bayfront or Airport/Harbor Island, Sheraton Hotel/Marina or Manchester Grand Hyatt would be ideal.

You will need a car in San Diego, pretty much no matter where you stay.

Thanks for the quick response. And the website showing the map of the barges.

I have plenty of time to decide, but I am a planner since my time off is regimented. Last couple years the 4th has been the time to take the kids to the grand parents, but my other 'slot' is June which I have seen a number of people say isn't great weather in San Diego.

I was thinking of a Marriott property but have had second thoughts since I might not have enough points to do their reward where you can get air miles along with it in time.

Its nice to have options.
