Aer Lingus will be moving in to T5 at JFK in Q1 2013, easing interline connections between the Irish carrier and JetBlue. This also reduces the MCT for passenger to 60 minutes inbound to the USA and only 40 minutes outbound to Ireland. Good for the EI passengers on pretty much every level other than walk distance from baggage claim to the AirTrain.

We don't have any lounges in T5 at JFK. Now I don't know if there are any plans to put one into T5i but so far we don't have any type of facilities to handle J class passangers from either Hawaiian or Aer Lingus.

Now there is an idea for ancillary revenue, you can always up-sell lounge access at the booking stage (as Aer Lingus do), throw in Priority Pass and the lounge will be busy ^

Agree totally, fine for connecting traffic, or for folks arriving by taxi but for originating pax using T5 car park this is a real negative given the schlep relative to the short walk at T4. Also agree, the Oasis Lounge will be missed.

Since Oasis is land side in T4, one could check in at T5, go to T4 for the lounge, and then return (allowing sufficient time for the air train, security, and possible delays) to T5 for the flight. Not ideal, and of course if the airline doesn't give access to Oasis, one must obtain it from other means (DL SC membership, Priority Pass?).

T4is currently under a major expansion, part of that includes building a central security check point. In early Q1 2013 the retail hall, including all lounges will be post security.

Booked to fly with EI next April and see that it is now T5 at JFK. Checked on the web and the JetBlue section of Flyertalk and there is no lounge in T5. EI site still says Oasis lounge at T4. Anyone out there with an idea on what is happening.

Out of all the carriers right now, Aer Lingus seems to be the cheapest Low Fare carrier to Ireland and the UK with a short connection and it looks like Aer Lingus is moving in with JetBlue at their terminal where Hawaiian Airlines also resides.
As the aviation markets change, so do the low cost leaders. Aer Lingus seems to have a good reputation. Won't be another month till Aer Lingus is at the JetBlue terminal. For non connection customers both T4 and T5 are really nice though, but I guess it more aligns Aer Lingus with JetBlue for connection flights.
Other airlines likely get more direct traffic to premium LHR non stop market with higher paying customer bases.
I still remember when a connection to Iceland on Icelandair were some of the cheapest flights to Western Europe because of its hub before the Economic crisis hit over there. Now planes fly longer and competition has shifted, but for those on a budget flying to the UK, Aer Lingus seems like a really nice way to fly if you can deal with a stopover.

And if you stick in a day in Dublin on the way back or are happy to split tickets and take the risk involved, you can also avoid the ridiculous UK luxury tax on long-haul flights.

It makes no sense, and they should have a full interline relationship between the two, even if one has to buy multiple tickets which makes no sense considering Aer Lingus is at the JetBlue terminal and should have access to everything at the Terminal. Someone from Aer Lingus should get direct access to Hawaii from Ireland with a connection at JFK on Hawaiian airlines for a seamless trip as well as connections on JetBlue.
Makes no sense IMHO. Unless they are just starting some routes and will add the others later on. I don't know.

No Chicago either. Coincidence that they're both UA hubs?
adamj023

I was thinking that. In my initial message I posted about UA, but I looked at the map and it is only connections from Chicago. JFK to SFO is not included.
Carriers will do what is in their interests which is why each carrier is aligned with partners making connections between other airlines difficult. But in reality I don't see why Aer Lingus doesn't get access to all flights out of JetBlue's T5 for connections since it is already there.
No clue but for those who don't mind a connection flight at DUB to LON, Aer Lingus is an excellent low cost carrier to get to London and those Jetblue connection flights should do well.

That thought did pop into my head. United are never my first choice, so I end up not flying Aer Lingus because they align with them. Quite frankly if I have to make a connection anyway from SFO to DUB, I have plenty of other alternatives to choose from. I would be willing to do a code share from SFO or OAK for that matter with Jetblue and EI, but I'm not going to San Jose to do it. Only reason I would fly out of San Jose is if it was a direct flight to Dublin.
adamj023
Feb 23, 13, 2:02 pm
I am by JFK so any Aer Lingus flights would be direct to DUB. But if I went somewhere from Jetblue I would have access to all their flights.
It looks like SFO is based on an interline agreement. Unclear why it isn't an official codeshare agreement however but you can indeed use JetBlue at SFO by booking the tickets together.
Not sure how airlines decide which flights to use interline vs codeshare on. Perhaps they figure JFK to SFO is a popular overbooked route and don't want to give more traffic to this flight under a codeshare arrangement.

Aer Lingus at Jetblue is essentially JetBlue's answer to the Delta/Virgin Atlantic or British Airways/American Airlines alliance at JFK.
Obviously Business travelers who need direct service won't use Aer Lingus but for leisure and for customers looking for the cheapest possible price on a UK flight, Aer Lingus seems to be a well run carrier that handles it.
Even other carriers are expanding flights to Dublin to compete against Aer Lingus as well.
New York-JFK (begins 13 June 2013) for American Airlines to Dublin
Delta will compete along with Aer Lingus and AA @ JFK for Dublin flights.

Hot breakfast sandwiches. Free WiFi. A power outlet for each comfy chair. A slick bar stocking all the good stuff for complimentary cocktails. Cheese plates. Private restrooms with showers. Macbooks.
Hello, this is airport heaven.
Though it kinda sounds like we've been describing an ultra-premium airline lounge for elite flyers at some exotic international airport, all this is in fact coming to a new lounge within Terminal 5 at New York-JFK, aka the home of JetBlue. It's to be called Airspace, and travelers will find it come May 2013 after security, near Gate 24....

You beat me to it. New Lounge at JetBlue Terminal, about time. Great for Aer Lingus flights since it will be the longest haul flight at T5.
Airports in the NYC market were lackluster compared to the rest of the world, but lots of ongoing improvements.
Aer Lingus is an A330 and T5i won't be ready till 2015 so which terminal will Aer Lingus be using at T5? And will it migrate to T5i once that is complete?
If JetBlue uses one gate for Aer Lingus isn't it a reduction of gates till T5i is ready or is one gate of the new T5i expansion actually ready yet?

I assume Aer Lingus will use the same gate that Hawaiian uses with its daily A330. Not sure which number it is but I believe it's the one on the end (on the side where T5i will eventually be built). All Aer Lingus flights should be precleared at DUB/SNN so they won't need an international gate.

Makes sense. What carriers will go into T5i? Most partners have other alliances.
Hawaiian Airlines and Aer Lingus will be the biggest jets so far at the JetBlue terminal with A330's.

Probably just JetBlue. The main purpose of T5i is to allow JetBlue to clear international arrivals at its own terminal, instead of having them arrive at T4 and towing the aircraft over to T5 for departures as they do now. It will make things much easier for international-to-domestic connections. They might consider allowing partners in on a one-off basis as opportunities arise, like HA and EI, but I don't think adding other carriers is the primary goal.

It appears that SFO is the no. 3 interline destination from DUB (http://www.ittn.ie/bulletins/the-top-ten-connecting-destinations-from-dublin-airport/) - I'd say EI feels there is sufficient traffic on the route to merit investigating it once again; I imagine the yield guys in route planning have a special folder for SFO. When the required yield is achievable we'll certainly see a green light - and the yanks are returning in droves to Ireland now, so I don't think it will be long before we start hearing credible whispers.
You'll note that 4 destinations on the list are also served non-stop by EI ops.
And Toronto is another favourite rumour for EI.
Giving a cut - especially a disproportionately large cut to a short haul interline partner - is no airline's first choice.
The other destinations are just too far for EI with their equipment and the middle-eastern giants have been hoovering up that business. (As an aside, I reckon the JNB is actually a mask for much ultimately CPT-bound traffic, as not so many airlines serve it year-round directly).

Greetings, I've two questions and didn't want to have to start own thread, first at least relates to JFK/Jet Blue.
If DUB-JFK on EI is booked separately than same day flight JFK-MSY, will I be able to check in for both flights in DUB and have baggage go all way through to MSY without having to check in with JetBlue at JFK. I realize I'd be okay if both flights were booked through AE at same time, but unsure if AE and JetBlue are booked separately.
Second question is about MSY-LON. Through EI website, I'm only able to book MSY to Dublin or Shannon, with SHN-LON or DUB-LON having to be booked separately. My question is if this last leg is a regional flight booked separately if I'll need to pay baggage fees for regional part, or if the free international bag will carry through without need for additional fee? If anyone's had to book an international with two stopovers like this, would rate be better calling AE to route MSY-LON or same as booking separately online myself asking to be checked all way through?
Much thanks in advance.

The check through would be dependent on the JetBlue agents. Technically you probably would be liable for a fee. They used have an carry over long haul allowance for short haul trips between arrival and departure but im not sure if thats still the case.
I'm not sure if Aer Lingus can ticket beyond Dublin with JetBlue connections, but you could always try.

I used T5 this week twice. It's a huge improvement on T4. Check-in was easy; fast-track security was ok; the lounge is airside (hurrah) and boarding really easy with a priority line for Premier and Gold Circle members. On arrival at JFK, exit is a seamless transfer to domestic flights (no further security); bags arrived quickly and taxis plentiful. If being met at the airport, do not use the car park which looks to be in Rockaway. Have your driver wait and call when landslide. New lounge opens in May. Temporary lounge at Gate 1 is absolutely fine. Staff there could not have been more helpful. All in all, well done Aer Lingus.
