Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Upgrade Certficate question (can't find answer)

Recently flown F on CX JFK-HKG. Loved it. Even though the chair in 2A broke, they fixed it and I had absolutely zero problems. I was loving all the attention, in fact. Nonetheless, their service was A+, and yet I was given an upgrade certificate on my next paid CX flight.
Okay, so obviously I'm saving it for the long-haul. As I read the Terms, is an AA codeshare J-F (or Y-J) okay to use this cert on CX, because I assume it's simply straight use of CX metal at check in no matter the flight number on the same craft, or does it have to be a CX flight number? Anyone?
Another question.....if I decide to purchase Y, then I sure hope the next class is not this Y+ thing....(don't want to waste a cert to premium econ when it could be J). Thanks!

Your ticket must be on a CX flight number, so a AA flight number will not do.
If the coupon says, upgrade to next class of service, then if there is a Y+ cabin, that's where you are gonna be.
There are a few different versions of the cert. But mainly you have to list yourself on the flight to be upgraded by calling CX res. Obviously you need to be on CX to have a record locator and that is why the AA flight number will not do. I think the ticket must also be issued under 160 document - but I'm not too sure of this.

Depending on the version actually. If the version if for UG at the airport depending on availability, there is no need to call reservation because reservation can't do anything. If that is the version OP has, OP simply needs to check availability often and hope that he can get an UG at the airport. Also, even though I believe that one must book on CX FLT number to use the certificate, Guy Betsy's rationale doesn't seem right. Even if OP books an AA code-share FLT operated by CX, there is still an underlying CX (or 1A in reality) record locator (so that CX has a copy of the PNR).

The cert says flight operated by "CX" (but that's typed in on the blank line). The T&A on the back asserts that the cert is redeemable at time of check-in for flights operated by CX or KA aircraft. Cert says nothing about codesharing, only can't be used with FF Award inventory or industry/agent discount fares.
Because it says "aircraft", my assumption is asking about a codesharing option because it's still the same "aircraft". An AA codeshare booked in M (or V) would get me AAdvantage miles in full + bonus + the UG cert, that's nice deal if true. If booked in H on CX, no problem. Ditto in "I".
UG Cert must be surrendered at check-in counter.
Fortunately, the cert only has the following check-list:
Y to J
J to F
Since Y to Y+ isn't on this cert, I obviously won't get a Y+, but a J-. :-:

You answered your first question already. If the term is only and specifically "operated by CX", my interpretation is that the flight can be marketed by a different airline.

While I'm not doubting that OP should "theoretically" be able to use the certificate when booked on AA code, I am not sure about whether it is "technically" possible. It depends on whether the agent has to touch the TKT or not, and if so, the Amadeus migration might cause additional trouble.

I have had one of these are they are defo only for CX or KA flights, if the plane has Y+ and you buy Y you will get Y+ not biz
