Trying to figure out if LAN allows 1 way awards, but the website left me confused.

If yes can anyone tell me how many Kms I would need for 1 way business class award between LIM-MIA or LIM-JFK?

Thanks in advance!

LAN requires awards to be return, not one way.

LIM - MIA or JFK - LIM start from 48.000 klms but it really depends on what LAN really offers for your dates.

The 48k level award may not be available to be redeemed at all.

I suggest you check it for yourself for the dates you need it.

Can you book your reward on LAN via your AA programme? I booked a one way GRU-SCL in J on LAN for later this year using my BA Avios via BA.com.

(i know nothing about the AA programme so if they don't allow one way awards - me stupid and sorry)...

Both BA and AA allow one ways. I booked MIA-LIM-CUZ-LIM via BA so far.

I prefer to book LAN LIM-JFK using BA Avios for 40K (cheap!), but availability is not there. Even worse BA/Qantas are showing phantom availability, so you don't know if seats are there or not. 2nd choice is LIM-MIA for 25K. Same problem.

AA allows me to book LIM-MIA-LGA/JFK for 60K (regular price) on AA, but timing doesn't particularly work and LIM-MIA flight is domestic 757, i.e. not even angled seats in J. AA website doesn't show LAN availability.

I can transfer 50K KMs to LAN from SPG

LAN requires awards to be return, not one way.

Awards don't necessarily have to be returns, they just must have more than one segment (you can do an open jaw, for example).

By that logic LIM-MIA-JFK should count as 2 segments?

Sure, you could probably redeem that, except that each segment would be priced separatedly (the MIA-JFK flight would use the OW table) and would most likely cost more kms than a LAN-only LIM-JFK option (but that also depends on availability at the lower km level).

options that you can't redeem by themselves (you could maybe tag on a segment at the end for a later date?):
LIM-MIA -- starts at 24,000
LIM-JFK or LIM-(GYE)-JFK -- starts at 24,000

option that you could redeem by itself:
LIM-MIA- starts at 24,000 + MIA-JFK 14,000 = starts at 38,000

In the end what counts is what's available at how many kms for the date that you need...

For sure using AA points to redeem is the bargain here. LIM is in SA1 so only 17.5 in economy saver and 30k in business saver. Double those for anytime awards but then you don't have to concern yourself with availability. You would have to call AA to see if you can get on a LAN flight for those saver awards.

Ended up placing on hold AA Anytime Award for 60K. Not ideal, but those miles devalue over time, right?

why does it devalue?
