Credit Card Programs - Car Payments By Credit Card

View Full Version : Car Payments By Credit Card

I just paid my car payment by credit card, to Mercedes Benz Financial. They have a fee of $13 but allow $2999.00 to be charged at a time. That is not a bad investment to get miles as well as to meet spending requirements. My Wife's car payment is a Toyota Financial, called them but they do not take credit card payments. I was wondering what success have others had making car payments by credit cards?

Welcome to Flyertalk.

Did you pay with a Mercedes American Express or another type of card? Is the vehicle leased or financed?

You can also make car payments (to some financial companies) via Chargesmart. The fees differ by who you are paying. Depending on the card that you are using, it can very well be worth it.

Hi IFly, I inquired about this with MB FS, but was unclear about one thing. They said it is administered by Western Union Speedpay. So, what did the charge show up as on your CC statement / online? Did it show MBFS or WU?

Used SPG Amex. The charges showed up as MB FIN SVCS 800-654-6222 MI

I used SPG AMEX but was NOT charged any fees other than the $13 fee, however a friend just called to inform me that he was charged a cash advance fee of $150 on charging $2999.00 when he used it on the British Chase Visa

Thank you. In any event such payments are specifically excluded from the 5X bonus earnings offered by the Mercedes Benz American Express cards:

Cardmembers will accrue Membership RewardsŪ points in their program account for every eligible dollar charged and billed on their Mercedes-Benz Credit Card from American Express account as follows: 5 points for every dollar of eligible purchases at authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships, excluding monthly loan and lease payments,Bonus ID-5976;

I tried buying my last few cars with my CC and they all refused. 5k was max they would charge on it

doing it with visa buxx, you can probably pay EVERY bill with your CC.
But is there a charge?

Looks like $15 to start it up, but no fee add money as long as you use a US issued CC or ATM card.

Edit: Looks like a $2.50 fee to reload unless you use a US bank card. They don't have any good awards programs, just LAN/Flex/Korean Air

Depending on the fee charged, you could buy $500 Visa/MasterCard gift cards from an office supply store using the Chase Ink Bold/Ink Plus.

You get 5X points for buying the gift card at an office supply store with the Ink Bold/Ink Plus, which may be profitable if the ChargeSmart fee for paying in $500 increments is low.

Alternatively, you could use the American Express Blue Cash Preferred to buy $500 Visa/MasterCard from a grocery store for 6% cash back.

a M/O for 1000 is only 1.50 from any Post Office.

or save the 1.50 and just write a check to pay off the CC.

My property tax allows CC payments but there is a small charge from my town's website.
Geico insurance allows CC paymens with no extra charge. All my cars and properties are insured with them

BUXXs are issued by many. Try Nationwide Bank. There are MO and load fees, but the the cost per 1k of miles is attractive. You buy the MO at your grocer's business counter or at WalMart with the Buxx card (via pin debit).

is there a charge for:
1. Visa Buxx

2. Issuing a money order?

and how do you go from visa buxx to money order?

After fees for Visabuxx then conversion to a money order - is it any cheaper than just using chargesmart? Is it an appreciable difference? Because the time to complete that transaction (going out to buy a money order, then physically send a money order to your lender etc) sounds pretty unattractive.
