Seats and inflight classes
To check the seat plans for each aircraft click on the links above. Note some aircraft may have more than one version.
Note: Seats, especially business class seats, differ across the fleet and are subject to change.
Short and midhaul operate in a two class (economy and business class) configuration while some long haul aircraft operate three classes: economy, comfort (premium economy) and business class.
Seats are standard economy seats with varying pitch, largely around 31". TK provides free catering in economy class on all flights, including free alcoholic drinks (not domestic).
The longhaul fleet is progressively being updated with new inflight entertainment systems which includes WiFi. Check out http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/turkish-airlines-miles-smiles/1262419-live-tv-internet-wifi-planet-ife.html

TK's flagship lounge at IST is the International CIP Lounge (http://www.turkishairlines.com/en-cy/services/passenger_services/cip_international.aspx). Watch a video of the lounge here (http://www.turkishairlines.com/en-int/corporate/news/press_room/movie_archive/cip_2012_short.aspx).
The lounge offers extensive food and beverage options but can become very busy at times.
For a thorough discussion of the lounge with pictures and reviews check out http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/turkish-airlines-miles-smiles/1238616-tks-new-ist-lounge.html
CIP lounges can also be found at other Turkish airports and the domestic terminal at IST.
Business class passengers can use partner business lounges and *Gs can use Star Alliance *G lounges (http://www.staralliance.com/en/benefits/lounges/) at other destinations. In some cases a third party local contract lounge is being used.
The Star Alliance lounge finder (http://www.staralliance.com/en/benefits/lounges/lounge-finder/) is a handy tool to find the right lounge.
Lounges can only be accessed when departing on a same day Star Alliance flight.

Business class seats are flat beds. Seat pitch is 78" with a 177 degree recline.
Just a little reminder, these seats are currently only available on the 777-300ER and A330-300 fleet.
The A340s and A330-200s have the angled flat seats.
Also, there is 1 ex-QR A330 on lease where J/C has angled flat seats with IFE and Y without. This a/c usually flies to mid-haul routes with the occasional flight to DEL.
The narrow-body fleet (737/319/320/321) have many different seating configurations. Therefore one should not rely on seatguru for seat selections.
The new A321s/B737-800s and B737-900s come with the new narrow-body J/C product that offers Comfort seats (including IFE in both J and Y) in leather. The delivery of these a/c are ongoing.
I hope my post hasn't been too confusing...

The FAQ should perhaps contain a list of which routes that offers comfort class. (I was checking prices on a route where there used to be comfort class AFAIK, and got this error message)
Comfort Cabin service is offered for BEIJING, HONG KONG, LOS ANGELES, NEW YORK, SEOUL, SHANGHAI, TOKYO, SAO PAULO, TORONTO departures/arrivals.
Will probably change over time.

Has anyone had any experience with transferring a bag between TK and MS in Istanbul Ataturk? I'm looking at a UA *A award ticket on the 2 airlines with a connection in IST. The UA agent didn't know and the first TK res. agent said she didn't have access to that info and I should call the TK ticketing center (are they actually functionally different?). So I followed the old adage that when you get info you don't like call back. The second TK res. agent seemed sure that the bag would get checked through as long as I asked at the initial check-in but I just want to check here to see if there are any horror stories, etc.
Cheers.

As has been stated above and on the basis of my experiences on the MAN-IST-CAI, CAI-IST-MAN routes, on TK/MS metal, there should be no trouble with checking-in your luggage at the start of your trip and not having to worry about seeing it again until you reach your destination.
Naturally, this is dependent on the flights having been booked as a single ticket itinerary, and I'd confirm it with your initial check-in agent, and the same interlining of your bags should apply on the return flights (provided you're using MS & TK again).

Yes you can, as long as the 2 airlines are partners. I have done that with TK and SQ and it worked. All you need to do is to give the first bag drop (check-in) people your UA PNR (reservation code), and they will look for your UA flight, then they will issue the tags all the way to IAD.
If you happened to buy things and your luggage allowance is not used up at FRA, you can even add bags at FRA (I have done that before too) - but then you need to find the UA check-in, not TK.

Yes you can, as long as the 2 airlines are partners.
Not always, some airlines (even fellow Star Alliance members) refuse to interline if the connection is not on one PNR (for example bmi categorically refused to interline). However in most cases it should be possible.

Hi All,
I have an upcoming flight from IST-TLV and have a few questions, I have done a fair bit of searching and haven't been able to find the answers.
I am flying SYD-AUH-IST on an EY ticket (SYD-AUH on VA metal and AUH-IST on TK metal) then I have booked a separate ticket (in J) with TK for IST-TLV 6 hours after I arrive in IST.
1)Will I be able to check my luggage through from SYD-TLV? I assume not as I have 2 separate tickets and I will be checking in with VA in SYD.
2)Assuming I have to re-check my baggage in IST, when does TK open check in for TLV flights, I assume check-in includes the Israeli security check as well so does this impact the check-in opening time? As I have 6 hours layover I was hoping to get into the TK lounge ASAP and I am hoping I won't have to wait around for ages to recheck my luggage.
Thanks to anyone who can help :)

I travel to Mongolia on business around three times a year. I arrived here yesterday and was very surprised to see a Turkish Airlines flight at ULN next to the one I arrived on. I always thought that only four main airlines flew to ULN - Air China, Korean Air, Aeroflot and MIAT.
I checked the *A timetable, and sure enough they fly to ULN three times a week from IST. The price in business class seems very low - around £1500, compared to the £2000 + I normally pay with Air China or Korean Air.
I've never flown on Turkish, so am interested to know what the quality of the business class is like on this flight. The plane is a 737 800, flight number 342.
The business class seat pictures on the Turkish Airlines website look very good, but are these the same seats as on the 737?

Catering is in the list near the top of the thread but.... did I miss it? [possibly lots of user error lately for TK and me]
In a nutshell, can someone describe what the different special meals typically are? I know the basics or at least have an idea about Kosher, or halal, or veggie, but I don't know what is in a Hindu meal vs a veggie Hindu meal - besides the obvious. In particular, what can one expect on IAD-IST-IAD for some of the not so obvious specials.
Thanks

I'm taking a flight with TK in CC soon via IST to HKG. I'm considering taking only 8kg carry-on-bag. I will do internet check in and print boarding passes at home. With TK, do I still have to go to desk at the origin airport to get cabin baggage tag for my carry-on? Am I facing carry-on control at IST gate when transfering? My e-ticket shows 30kg baggage I can take with. Usually checked backage is 20kg. Is 30kg allowance for HKG route or is it because my LH Silver? Thank you.

Baggage allowance is a good point:
I just checked my first TK tickets, the tickets in Y say 30kg, the tickets in C show 40kg.
TK website tells me 20 in Y and 30 in C.
Which information is right?
It can't be because of my TK Gold or LH Sen (all tickets have one of them entered), because *A Gold means 20kg more, so it would be 40/50.
Is there an experienced TK traveler who can help us out?

I have 2 upcoming TK trips to HK later this month and late Dec in Y and both tickets are 30kg allowance. Also my sis and mum just took their TK flight to IST from HKG and their tickets also said 30k. None of us has status (yet).
AFAIK as TK Gold you are allowed to take an extra bag on top of whatever you are allowed to.

I'm thinking of flying TK on CDG-IST-BOM route in january 2013. Do you all think I'll have a problem with a 2hr gap between flights at IST? I remember a ghastly immigration line last time I stopped in IST (90 minutes) but I assume on an int'l connecting flight I wouldn't need to go through that queue. TIA

2 hrs is fine in IST, you´ll make it for your connecting flight. Just follow transfer signs if you are bussed from a plane.

Especially when you are not going to the US :p
2 years ago our flight to IST was seriously delayed due to snow storm and when we arrived IST there were already ground staffs waiting to 'herd' us to the connecting flight. Amazingly we got there and it's ready to depart and our bags made it to our destination too.

Is there any way to determine if the A321 serving VKO has the new J seats or the blocked middle? Is it safe to say all A320 have the blocked middle and all 738/9s do not or are there some exceptions? Also, for the blocked middle planes is there more legroom (equivalent to Economy Plus on United, for example) or is it standard coach pitch?

By reading the first few posts, it seems A333 in business is true lie flat, while A332 is angled lie flat. Does anyone know what aircraft usually is on SIN-IST and does it change often? I am flying April 29 2013.

Quick question. What lounge TK uses at Helsinki? Is it SAS (Star Alliance) lounge in terminal 1, although TK departs from the other end of the whole airport (non-schengen area of terminal 2). Thanks for the info.

One of the perks of top tier TK status is owning a TK *A Gold card, which allows access to any *A lounge in the world, regardless of which *A airline you are flying AND regardless of where you are flying (domestic or international; see old 2012 TK status match thread).
One caveat: I’ve personally entered a few UA RCC’s and also a US lounge with my TK Gold card, but recently thought I would be able to enter a *A lounge at DFW even though I was not flying a *A carrier at the time. It turns out, at least in the DFW D-Gates Lufthansa lounge and in the DFW C-Gates RCC, you have to be holding a valid *A BP.
Nevertheless, for domestic *A travelers, a TK *A Gold card is a big deal because a *A Gold card issued from UA (or US) does NOT allow you into a domestic *A lounge like the TK Gold card does, unless you are flying internationally.
BTW, this is not the case for the RCC Club membership. With the RCC club card, you can enter a US *A lounge (past security) even if not flying anywhere.
Star Alliance Gold Customers Travelling in Any Class:
Customers have access to any Star Alliance member carriers' owned lounges with the Star Alliance Gold logo at the entrance.
Customer must present proof of Star Alliance Gold level status via a valid frequent flyer program Star Alliance Gold level card or other valid indication of Star Alliance Gold level status
Customer must also present a boarding pass for travel on a Star Alliance flight departing from the local airport
Customer is entitled to one guest
United and US Airways Star Alliance Gold customers may only access the United Clubs and US Airways Clubs within the U.S. when travelling in conjunction with a Star Alliance international flight.
That means other *A members in the US can access the clubs even traveling domestically.

Hello Turkish experts!
I am flying from Stockholm to IST and then IST to Barcelona soon.
I suppose it´s the CIP Lounge i will have acces to when travelling in Business.
However, do they offer rooms for sleep? I would be really happy if i could catch up with 2 hours of more sleep before travelling to BCN.
Do you need to request these rooms before or is it first in - get´s em?
I am landing 05.00 AM (if on time) and that is when the lounge open.
Is it busy at this time of the day?
My layover is 3 hours.
That was my lounge question.
Also: I will be travelling with an A319 and an A321.
Does anybody know what the seats look like?
In KVS the A319 shows 4 rows of Business.
And the A321 shows 5 rows of Business.
/FirstClassSE
I guess it´s not the nice "Turkish" business class seats.
Just standard seats with the middle seat blocked, right?

I am landing 05.00 AM (if on time) and that is when the lounge open.
Is it busy at this time of the day?
My layover is 3 hours.
People have said lounge is pretty busy early in the morning and late at night.
Perhaps you can get more answers to lounge questions in this thread:
Friday night at 11PM and the THY lounge is packed. Noisy, all sorts of lurkers and the like, and just plain conspicuous consumption everywhere you turn.
As you walk in, a group is playing pool as if at a local nightclub, just hangin' out.
To the right are free lockable lockers but each one is see-through; must be for security? in any case, a nice perk. Next to that is a small media room with those seats you see in basements of high-end homes, playing some musical of a movie, with a few people sprawled out, obviously here for a while.
Around the corner is a wall with NINE 40 inch TVs lined up 3x3 and a few chairs I guess for people who want to channel surf with their eyes rather than with a remote.
Keep walking and notice several food stations, one with a chef making pastry appetizers as fast as he can, rolling the dough and filling it before putting it into the firey oven. Nearby is a salad station. Another with grilled chicken and kebabs with grilled tomatoes, and other veggies, plus and a spice bar for the meats (unlabeled, try your luck- but oh so good). Another station with sweets; and a few stations here and there with beer, wine, sodas, juice, etc.
A small kiddie place looks kinda cute, but I wouldn't want my kid unattended there....
Towards the back left are the showers, a prayer area, and a concierge manning the showers. Somewhere in there are rooms to snooze in, but the rule is you have to be connecting between flights for between 4 & 7 hours- kinda narrow range, no?
The staff are incredibly friendly, always cleaning up after people, and smiling and ready to chat. This really adds to the tome of what otherwise could just be a zoo making you feel like only seedy types would wanna hang around here.
All in all a neat place (perhaps a destination for some!) but for some ferner-phobes, it could be a bit startling at 1st.
Fun!

You may be able to use the sleep room in the THY lounge, so if you need stuff from your checked in luggage, consider interrupting it in IST. It may be less risk of baggage connection mess if you just check it in all the way through.

Thanks for the reply. If I understand it correctly, the THY lounge is for biz class, elite miles & smiles and *G passengers. I will be flying only economy class and I am not elite member as well. So I guess I don't have access to the THY lounge or not able to take advantage of the free tour/room since my layover is less than 10hrs. Am I right? Or the sleep room has a different policy which I am not aware of?
I will be arriving IST at 445pm and leaving to MLE at 110am, I plan to kill time in Hsbc lounge (have hsbc premier cc) or is there a better option? Sorry if this is not the right place to ask, TIA.

If you don't have any *G and with a booking only in coach, thats right.
TK CIP Lounge is indeed by far the best lounge at IST, but any lounge is better then hanging around at the gate for so many hours :(
What you could try is a status match with TK. The match quite a lot, nearly any OW or ST mid/top level and EY GoldELite as well.

If not, are there ary other lounges in IST that will accomodate me? The "elite M&S call center stated that I could enter the CIP with my elite OW card, but this seems to be incorrect. Two weeks ago, a colleague was carrying a fragile parcel from DUS-SIN. Check-in said "no issue", neither did the counter at the gate.
On the gangway was a TK staff who said the parcel was too big, but as my colleague was the last on board he was not issued a baggage tag for the parcel. And that was the last he saw of the parcel.
Emails sent to TK and lost baggage request submitted - nothing heard so far.
Anybody knows if its common to NOT issue a baggage tag when a suitcase/item is not allowed on board?
If it does end up as "lost" what options does the colleague have?
Tried to search for the TK office number at DUS but websites seem to only offer the Customer Care number for Germany.

I will by flying IAD-IST-ARN in a few days.
I will have a 21x14x9 rollaboard as well as a very small laptop bag.
I'll be arriving into IAD on a UA flight 3 hours before IAD-IST departure (separate ticket).
1. Would both my carryons be permitted on the TK flights (A340 and A330)? Are the overhead bins large enough to accommodate the rollaboard? Does TK allow 2 such pieces for carry-on? (I'm a *G flying in economy)
2. Assuming I can carry on both pieces, does TK require that I check in at the main terminal (thus having to exit and reclear security), or could I just check in directly at the gate (and thus be able to spend more time at the VS lounge ;))?

One piece of cabin baggage for economy, *G does not give you anything extra. 8kg max and dimensions not to exceed 23x40x55 cm. However a small laptop bag can be also be brought on.

Thanks starflyergold. A 21x14x9-in rollaboard falls within the 23x40x55-cm limit, so I guess that will be okay, and it will have only clothing, so weight should probably also be okay.
I just realized that on my return, the ARN-IST sector is an A321; while the rollaboard should fit in overheads on the A330/340's, are the A321 bins large enough to accommodate easily, or would it eat up an entire bin's worth of space?

We are flying on J award ticket (thanks Award Nexus!!!) in June on TK YYZ IST and connecting domestically on TK to DLM
In J on TK the checked baggage allowance is 30 kg, but there is a special rule that allows two pieces of 32 kg each between Canada and Turkey.
Question - will this special allowance hold for the flight from IST to DLM, as it is a direct connection from the YYZ IST flight?
Not so worried on the return as we are meeting friends to go sailing and want to bring some special food and drink items as a thank you, so will be lighter on the return trip.
As an aside, is it a problem to bring in canned food, packaged items like crackers, liquids (maple syrup) and sauces, etc. in checked baggage? Of course everything will be manufactured and in original closed containers.
I will bring a couple of bottles of spirits and would also like to bring a few bottles of wine. I know the allowance is 1 L spirits OR 2 L wine, but will they really care?
Also, just to confirm, if I walk off the plane with 1 L of spirit, I can buy another bottle at IST in the arrivals hall?
Finally, anyone have a link to the prices at IST int'l arrives duty free?
Thanks in advance!

Hi All,
New to TK (elite status) and I have a couple questions on TK and luggage. I will be doing BEG-IST (12hr layover) IST-LAX then LAX-YVR on Alaska with a separate PNR.
1. Am I able to claim my luggage at IST and check it back in before my connecting flight? If so, how far in advance?
2. Will TK check through your luggage to final destination if you have 2 PNR`s. I would prefer to use the connecting intl baggage drop at LAX, rather than lug my stuff to the next terminal.
3. Should I bother to see if I can use the suites at the lounge or just go directly for the free hotel (already have Visa)? Ideally I think I would rather just crash at the lounge, have a shower, light lunch then be on my way. Based on the lounge forum, it sounds like policy is for me to use the hotel, but would like to ask.
Thanks in advance.

Good Day,
I am currently Miles&More FTL (*A Silver) and TK Elite (*A Gold).
Following problems as I haven't flown as much as intended:
-I will not be able to requalify for TK Elite, so I will be downgraded to Classic Plus (*A Silver)
-Since I put my miles on TK, I will lose my Miles&More *A Silver benefits, too.
So in a year from now, I will be TK Silver and LH "nothing".
I usually fly LH/OS/LO/LX, airlines which would allow me to use my LH *A Silver card for lounges, but would I be able to use other carriers *A Silver lounges with my TK Classic Plus Card when I travel with another *A Carrier than TK (which I usually do?).
The lounges are quite important for me, so if there is no way to get in in LH/OS/LO/LX Silver lounges with my TK Classic Plus Card, I will try to generate some segments on my LH account, in order to keep the Silver Status (30 are needed).
If however my TK *A Silver Card allows me to enter LH/LX/OS/LO Silver lounges, then I don't mind to loose my LH status completely...

TK*S does not give you access to any other lounges other than TK's own. So if LH group "business" lounge access is important to you then you should stick with LH M&M.

I have a flight coming up AMM-IST-YYZ. There are different rules listed on the website for the Toronto flights than there are for Amman. Which rules apply? Toronto since that's the ultimate destination, or AMM since that's where I check in?
The difference is pretty big... 20 kg all together for AMM or 2 pieces 23 kg each for YYZ.

It's almost embarrassing to ask about this, I should be able to figure it out on my own, but anyway; I'm E+ and travel quite a bit between Europe and Asia. I usually only bring a few kilos of checked-in luggage, if any at all and have never cared about the luggage quota. However, next week I need to bring a lot of extra kilos. How many pieces of luggage can I check-in as an E+ traveling in E between Europe and Asia? And how many kilos per piece?

The issue is the last leg IST-CAN is two day after, because it departs at 12:30 AM(the next day).... but my layover time at IST is 8 hours and I don't think I can collect my bag and re-check in at IST. If I have to collect them at IAD, I only have 2 hours and half for connecting. Is it enough?

You can check all the way through with UA (at discretion of gate agent). Make sure you bring a full copy of your itinerary (not a hand written copy) for the connecting flights. I did this on both my outgoing and inbound legs last month with 3 separate PNR's.
YVR-SEA(AC) to SEA-ORD-IST (AA and TK)
BEG-IST-LAX(TK) to LAX-YVR (DL)
The AC agent was ok with a pdf on my tablet (had hand written info, but it was not acceptable). For the return flight, I made sure to print the DL itinerary, just in case there was a language issue in BEG. There was a 14hr layover in IST and luggage came through fine in LAX and then did the dropoff after customs to get to YVR.

You enter either service class (as I did) or FF programme and status, but not both.

I have a question about the lounge in Istanbul.
There is a lot of talk about the place constantly being packed to the gills. So my question is, which are the peak hours of the lounge, e.g when the place becomes crowded at most?
Also how does the season play in. Is the lounge for instance emptier during the summer months, with fewer business travelers. Or is it crowded all year around.
Also how difficult is it to get a dayroom for a couple of hours?
