Emirates Skywards - Evaporating upgrade

Rant time...
Bought ticket late and checked in online to find only middle seats available. Figured I'd see if I could get an aisle seat / exit row at the airport.
Woman at the Business check-in: "Oh there's no need to change your seat - you're marked for an upgrade at the gate".
Get to gate: "Sorry, business class is full, and there are no other seats to move you to".
Very uncomfortable red-eye flight. Not happy

Where were you travelling from? DXB? I've never heard of someone being marked for an upgrade at the gate, because normally op-ups are already processed (at least from the airports I travel from) by the time check-in starts.
I agree with you. Poor form by the check-in agent. And I would have been a little pissed off as well if this had have happened to me.

Yes - DXB.
Oh interesting. Most - maybe 60-70% - of my upgrades have been at the gate. However I'd never been explicitly told it was going to happen at check-in without actually getting the new BP before. Should have raised alarm bells...

Poor form, definitely. Hope I get to sleep better tonight!
