Hi,

Looking for personal recommendations of a tour company/guide to do the 2 day Machu Picchu hike in early October 2012.

I realize that it is truly not a full 2 day hike and due to time constraints we cannot do the 4 day hike. Will be staying and acclimating in Cuzco before Machu Picchu.

Anyone with experience and recommendations for the 2 day hike ??

Thanks for any help.

I'm hoping to go down there myself during Spring Break next March, and I've been in contact with Adios Adventure Travel, a Cuzco-based company with an office in the US. The price seems reasonable, and they are willing to customize my trip, since I don't think I want to have a guide while I'm hanging out in Cuzco.

One excellent resource (but it costs a $60 donation for one year's membership to join) is the South American Explorers (www.saexplorers.org) - members post their experiences, there are recommended tour groups (and some that are genuinely not good as well as exploitive of the environment, the porters and tourists who pay and then pay with a lousy trip). They have the added advantage of a clubhouse in Cusco where you can use the Internet, touch bases with others, store a bag while hiking, etc. etc. (as well as Buenos Aires, Lima and Quito).

Disclosure: I am a lifetime member, precisely for the benefits and for the good they do.
