Hi guys
Flying through HKG with Air NZ on Monday evening. Any recommendations for which Star Alliance lounge I should use? Is one better than the rest?
Key priority for me will be to get a shower when I get in, then a little food.
Recommendations much appreciated.
Cheers
Andy

There are 3 *G lounges at HKG, 2 of which have showers. The TG and UA lounges both have showers, and public opinion is split on which is better. Both are quite decent though and I think you'll be satisfied with either.

Depends on time of day. Last time i was there in the the morning, TG lounge was practically empty and UA Club was packed. SQ does not have showers and the food was cold and gross when I was in there

Please do consider doing a search. Plenty of recent discussion on this exact topic.

Food in the SQ and TG lounge are roughly equal. UA Club isnt very good food-wise.

I think most people would rate the UC more or less on par with the TG lounge in terms of food. TG is just more Asian and UA is more Western, but that's to be expected. If you're only eating the mini spring rolls and samosas at the UC you're likely to be unimpressed.
I was flying from EWR to SIN via HKG last week, and stopped in at the TG lounge. I'm glad I did, as I really liked it. It seemed a little difficult at first to find (near gate 40 I think), but that was good as it was relatively quiet and not too crowded in there. Food was very nice & freshly prepared (mostly Asian - which I like), with a decent selection of alcoholic beverages, including good red wine. The service ladies were helpful, courteous, gracious and quite nice.

I just got returned from a SFO to CMB trip on SQ. On my way to CMB I stopped at the TG lounge at HKG. It was around 7:00am and the lounge was empty. My main goal was to take a shower. I found that the shower room, though adequate, to be very small. I also didn't like the fact that the shower room didn't have a toilet. On my way back to SFO, I went the UA lounge at HKG. It was around 7:00 pm this time and the lounge was pretty empty. Once again my main goal was to take a shower. I found the shower at the UA lounge to be much more spacious, and it also had a toilet in it. So to me the UA lounge was much better.
In addition to the TG and UA lounges, I stopped at the SQ lounge both times. To me the food in all 3 was somewhat similar. Decent, but nothing special. However, I did like the fact that the SQ lounge had Haagen-Daz ice cream.

SQ lounge has more and better hot food and decent ice cream as pointed out above. TG is quieter and has a good selection of fruits. they are all clustered together so i did a fair amount of lounge-hopping when i was there...

Q: I will be flying from HKG-PEK in a couple of weeks on KA. I am *G with CA. Would I be able to use the *A lounge even though I am not flying on a *A airline?
Thanks much.

No they are not, TG and UA lounges are close by each other, but SQ lounge is far away right after immigration.

No, *A rules stated very clear you MUST have a *A same day boarding pass departing from the local airport and your *G card.
The only way you can access *A lounge but not flying *A airline is unless you have a UA club membership, but still you can only use the UA club but not SQ or TG.

I would say UA is best for shower, average food, and cheap wine. When not flying *A airlines, this is my place to park before the flight (thanks to my lifetime UC membership)
TG food is fine and a nice place to visit. I enjoyed the lengthy stay the most.
SQ is quiet and less bright, so good for taking naps. Food is also fine with wonton soup noodle made to order. Best bubblies of the three lounges! Lack of bathrooms is the negative. Also for the record, fastest internet connection of the three *G lounges.

I've used HKG for transits on Air NZ multiple times and echo what UA_Flyer said.
The NZ departure gate is relatively close to the TG and UA lounges. I always go to the UA lounge for a shower (TG has only shower and no toilet in the shower room) and then decide whether I want food or not. TG has better food, but I often don't want much.
If I've gone AKL-HKG-LHR then the time in HKG is at dawn and I would have had breakfast on the flight (to be fair I've only ever done this route in Business) and just want a shower, a drink, check emails and relax, and the UA lounge is comfortable, has reasonable wifi, a reasonable selection of drinks (for the morning, not wine). TG's food at that time isn't really much better and the SQ lounge is too far to be worth trapsing to the main terminal building for.
In the other direction it is late afternoon when LHR-HKG arrives and I'd be more likely to go to the TG lounge if I want food, after using the UA lounge for a shower.
