Marriott Rewards (including Ritz-Carlton) - Do you earn Marriott points if booking through Chase UR?

Saw a similar post at the Hilton section and want to confirm if that applies here as well. Since Chase offers 3% cashback for booking through their Ultimate Rewards Mall, I was thinking of booking my future stays using this method. But will I earn Marriott Reward points by doing this?

Also for anyone who has reserved a room through Chase UR with their Marriott Reward/Premier Credit Card, did they also get the 3% back to their UR account (Chase Freedom or Sapphire Card) or did it get credited as points to their Marriott account? Asking this because UR is not part of the Marriott credit card account. I have access to it because I also use a Chase Freedom and Sapphire card.

Thanks.

IMO using Chase for bookings will not accrue MR points as it is a 3rd party website.................

IMO using Chase for bookings will not accrue MR points as it is a 3rd party website.................It is possible to get Marriott points when booking reservations through a 3rd party site. The real question is: who do you pay for the stay? If you pay Marriott (i.e. pay when you check-out), then you will probably get points. If you pay Chase upfront and they pay Marriott behind the curtains, then you probably won't get points.

This would be true if it were a 3rd party website booking. (You may be confusing the Ultimate Rewards Mall with booking travel using UR points,)

However, the Chase UR Mall works like one of the cash back sites, you're taken directly to the Marriott website to make your reservation. Once you complete your stay, Chase credits your UR account based on the final amount you paid the property and you get the MR points since you booked the stay through Marriott.

I have booked with UR Travel as well as UR Mall. Both were paid with my Chase card and both earned me Marriott credits.

My experience with UR Travel didn't earn me the extra 1 UR point probably due to me changing the rate to a corporate rate at check-in. On the other hands, booking via UR Mall always give me 3 extra UR points even if I apply corporate rate. Therefore I have been using UR Mall exclusively now.

I have not tried redeeming UR points on UR Travel. I guess this when you don't earn Marriott credit.

interesting.................never heard of this program...........do you have a website for info on this program (as I have both the Chase Marriott & Hyatt cards, but need to see if this is available for residents outside CONUS)

It's only available to Chase's Ultimate Rewards Cards (Freedom, Sapphire/Preferred, Ink Classic/Bold)

You probably shouldn't receive "cashback" or extra UR points for mall purchases, if you booked a non-commissionable rate.

Thanks for the replies. Will be using UR to book my future reservations. No plans on using my UR points for redeeming a room. Just want to use it to pay for it since I usually have enough points from Marriott and redeem those instead.

I always make reservation through chase Ultimate mall as long as I use Chase saphire prefered card, chase freedom card or chase ink bold card. I always get the marriott points and chase ultimate points. But if I use chase marriott card to pay the bill, I cannot get the ultimate points, which is ugly. If you pay by marriott card, you get 15+5 marriot points per dollar(if you are marriott platinum). If you use chase saphire prefered card, you get 15 marriott points plus 5 ultimate points. Ultimate points is definitely more valuable than marriott points.

if the difference is betwen marriott points vs ultimate points what can you do with the ult pts that you can't with the marriott pts and why are they more valuable??

If you use chase saphire prefered card, you get 15 marriott points plus 5 ultimate points. Ultimate points is definitely more valuable than marriott points. You get 5 UR points for using a Sapphire Preferred card? I only get 3 points for my Freedom or Sapphire (regular, no AF card).

So it sounds like they won't allow you to mix and match the cards like that? That's what I figured since the Marriott card does NOT belong to the UR program. I prefer to use the Marriott Premier card for 5 points since I want to use it for redeeming rooms.

I guess if it's the same amount of points on the CSP card then it's up to the person which they value more. The Chase UR points allow you to redeem them for other things including cash. In my case since it's 3 points per dollar instead of 5, I'll stick with using my Marriott card.

ultimate points can be transferred to united miles , Marriott points, hyatt points and many other cho ice. If you have chase saphire prefered card, free dom or ink bold, you can earn ultimate point .

For saphire preferred card and ink bold card, you earn 2 points for hotel stay and you got extra 3 p oints if you book through ultimate mall.

AFAIK, you can use any credit card to make a purchase (or in this case, a reservation) through the UR mall, Chase or otherwise, and still get the UR points. You only need to have a Freedom, Sapphire, or Ink Bold card to gain access to the mall.

So in this case you could make a reservation through the UR mall, pay with a Chase Marriott card, and get 3 UR points + 5 Marriott points per dollar (plus whatever level of stay Marriott points you qualify for).

I do not know your experience. When I used marriott card to pay the room five times, only one time I get the ultimate points. As the rule of ultimate mall, you only get point by usingfreedom, sapphire and ink bold.

This is one of my concern because as I understand it, since it's the UR is really available for those 3 programs (Freedom, Sapphire & Ink), it will be limited to those cards only. I will use a third party cashback site like I have been doing in that case since it's also 3%. Just wanted to avoid an extra step of transferring the cashback to Paypal, etc. if I could have just have it in my Chase account.

Thanks everyone for all the feedback on this.

I book rooms via the link in the UR Mall, but have had a hard time getting them to post. I pay with my Chase Sapphire Preferred card at the hotel, but I am wondering if the fact that another card is stored in my Marriott.com account (although not being used to pay for the room) is stopping me from getting the UR points. Is UR really strict on Marriott.com bookings through the UR Mall, I know that it is more strict with some merchants over others.

if you book a Marriott reservation through the UR website can that reservation still be used for a LNF claim?

does anyone know if you can get the UR bonus when ordering a Marriott GC on the Marriott site after clicking through the Ultimate Rewards portal? the portal link doesn't have any exclusion language re: GC or Cash Equiv purchases like sites such as OD, etc.
