I got this Barclay's US Airways MC 4 months back with 40K miles bonus. I am not a happy Barclay's customer (highest APR, CL reduced last month as I opened new credit with other company, CS does not answer all questions). Will I lose my bonus points, companion certificates if I close their credit card now? Any suggestion/ help much appreciated. Thanks

If you care about the APR on a rewards card, whether it's high or low, you should stop using it.
It makes zero sense to carry a balance on a rewards card, no matter how low the interest rate (unless absolutely 0% perhaps), because the cost of the interest rate, even if very low, greatly exceeds the value of the (ongoing, not bonus) miles earned.
However, there is no need to cancel a card too soon just because you no longer want to use it. Just stop using it, put it in a drawer, and then remember to cancel it later (say, when the one-year anniversary and thus annual fee is about to come due).
I don't personally know what is the recommended hold time at Barclays, but at Chase it is recommended to keep the card for at least 6 months if you want zero risk of them yanking your bonus miles back. (Citi, on the other hand, never yanks airline miles or hotel points back.) So in absence of bank-specific information about any other bank, I would hold the card at least 6 months before cancelling it.

I would keep the card for just under a year. If you use the card for an award ticket on US metal, you get 5K miles discount. Domestic savers are only 20K (hard to find--must be flexible), off peak (winter--Jan/Feb) Europe is 35K in coach & 55K in Biz. Biz (Envoy) is very nice with lie flat seats.
The 55K off peak Biz Europe awards are quite the nice deal. Especially from the west coast.

Also, putting a charge on it 10 or 11 months after it was issued will give you a US Air account activity that keeps it alive.
For any miles or points credit card, I recommend putting a charge on it every month or so to avoid being labeled as someone who gets cards only for the bonus. I have a very tiny regular monthly bill that I can pay on a card automatically. Easy.

As everyone else has said, keep it open. If you did the 40k 1st purchase, then you will be getting 10k extra miles every anniversary (well worth the AF). As mentioned above put a small charge on it every month or so and keep it with other inactive cards.

Wait until after the grand slam (if it comes back this year)

Exactly. Definitely a card to keep just for the 10k annual bonus.
