I have an unlocked HTC Inspire 4G on t-mobile $50 plan and am reasonably happy with it but looks like simple mobile offers the same basic plan (on t-mobile network) plus international texts for $10 less per month.
I am wondering if anyone has tried them?

I have been using Simple Mobile for 4 months without any major issues. The only problem I can see is the lack of roaming.

We have setup a few people with it for extended stays in the US, only issue communicated back to me was the poor T-Mobile coverage in parts of Virginia.

Please excuse the ignorance.... lack of roaming? I am no the t-mobile network now and normally have decent coverage while in cities and along the interstates, will I have the exact same access on simple mobile or ??
T-Mobile contract plan subscribers get to roam on regional carriers in areas without T-Mobile's own towers. Users on prepaid/monthly 4G plans or MVNO do not get roaming privileges.

Exactly as Simple Mobile uses T-Mobile's native coverage. T-mobile has certain roaming agreements with other carriers, but Simple Mobile is not allowed to roam on these other networks.

I ended up going with Straight Talk prepaid bring your own phone and so far could not be more pleased. Got the chip for $15 and the service plan for $45 month. The data is so much faster that edge!!

I highly recommend H2O Wireless. You can get a SIM card for a $1. Then pick the plan u need: I usually use the five cent per minute and per text plan. Then use Wifi for most calls with Google Voice (which maintains my number).
Best of all, you can use locked ATT Phones, including iPhones.
I've bought a big pack of their SIM cards and pop them in when I visit the States. They rock.

I've had them for a month when I was in CA, and their BIS plan work fine. I almost always had coverage
