How come united has not bought out this website from this sport clothing store? It would make alot of sense that they should own this domain, just like many airlines have their website like LH BA AA etc.

It would make alot of sense that they should own this domain, just like many airlines have their website like LH BA AA etc. If companies bought every possible domain (including mis-spelled ones) the choices would be endless. While UA is the IATA code for United, they have marketed mostly just united.com, and originally ual.com. Plus maybe they tried, Under Armor probably beat out United Airlines, and United Artists in a bidding war. FWIW, Under Armor is no slouch (and not just a clothing store)... they are close to a 1.5 billion in revenue company on thier own, so I doubt they are really chomping at the bit to "sell" to United. z28lt1 Jul 6, 12, 8:27 am Also note that they do have UAL.com, which is what was used way back in the day when everyone had shortened names. At the time, there wasn't a big jump to reserve all sorts of names like there is now. I still use ual.com always, as I'm used to it. Before continental.com it was flycontinental.com. z28lt1 Jul 6, 12, 9:53 am Continental's website used to be "CO.O.L." but I don't believe it was ever cool.com. Before continental.com it was flycontinental.com. Thanks, I believe you are correct, my memory ain't what it used to be. Found this: http://www.zdnet.com/news/cool-com-most-valuable-domain-name/106593 bmvaughn Jul 6, 12, 9:54 am Because, if I recall correctly, when Under Armor was founded in 1996, United was still doing business as "United Air Lines". UAL4life Jul 6, 12, 10:47 am It even took a while for UAL to purchase "United.com", which they paid through the nose for, if I remember correctly. |
