I'm currently "Blue" -- the perks for the upper levels are well detailed, but I'm curious if there's greater room availability when using points ~ thanks

I have never been turned down on a Diamond request. travelinfoo Jul 6, 12, 6:52 am I'm currently "Blue" -- the perks for the upper levels are well detailed, but I'm curious if there's greater room availability when using points ~ thanks There is extended award availability for DIAMONDS only. Often when there is no award availability initially and I log in, I'll see "extended Diamond award availability" on the listings. Anything below Diamonds, if the standard award rooms are gone, they are gone, whether you log in or not. Premium awards may still be available to all though. In order to use the VIP awards (for Silvers & higher), there has to be standard rooms available. cordelli Jul 6, 12, 6:55 am I'm currently "Blue" -- the perks for the upper levels are well detailed, but I'm curious if there's greater room availability when using points ~ thanks Only if you use the diamond force and they accept it. Otherwise, it's the same for all levels. Often1 Jul 6, 12, 7:59 am As always, with hotels, call the property itself, not the 800#. Politely say that you had hoped to stay there, but can't get it to work on points. Can they assist you? About half the time, it works or they can't do it, but offer you a great rate or a room credit or some such. Needless to say, not worth the toll call during major sporting event, etc. travelinfoo Jul 6, 12, 10:06 am As always, with hotels, call the property itself, not the 800#. BLUE is not any status and anyone signing up is automatically blue. A nice paid rate may be offered though. mareh Jul 6, 12, 11:43 am There is extended award availability for DIAMONDS only. It happened again just yesterday when I booked online. My rate sheet says "Diamond only standard room award." Often1 Jul 6, 12, 12:55 pm Good suggestions. And there lies the difference between calling the property and calling the 800#. Individual properties aren't infatuated with so-called elite status and are focused on building specific loyalty. In other words, as between someone who may go spend 50 nights at other properties and someone who spends 2 nights/year, but both at one property, the property will help the latter any day of the week. |
