Hi I am flying Thai Air Asia and connecting to an award ticket in BKK to HKG My HKT flight leaves at 6:55 AM (first flight of the day) and arrives at 8:15 AM and my connecting CX flight leaves at 11:50 AM. Will immigration be different since its domestic and from what I understand the first flight delays aren't that common as I saw Thai Air Asia has a 90% on time arrival on this route. 3.5 hours should be enough right? I probably have to get my baggage and re check as well. I hope everything will be on time.

If the plane takes off then 3.5 hours is quite sufficient. If something is amiss then FD won't take responsibility and you'll looking at missing your CX flight.
If FD is your plane of choice then I'd fly in BKK the night before assuring you get there. Otherwise, if the early morning flight bank is what you want, look into PG or TG.
Also, when is this flight? As of Oct 1 FD will be operating out of DMK.

Flying on in Late August. I don't think its necessary to change my flight and book a hotel room. I don't understand why I would need to switch to PG or TG. I understand they won't take responsibility. According to flightstats the first flight in the morning has by far the highest probability of being on time because when delays do accur they build up the entire day as the planes fly back and forth from HKT-BKK.

Because they are imminently more reliable.
You fly FD you take your chances.

D is correct. But you're just going to HKG. You might wanna risk it. Not hard to find a flight later. If you were going long haul to Europe or NA I would follow D's advice. 1 time I had a 5 hr layover between HKT-BKK & BKK-SFO. Cut to the chase - FD was way way late & it cost me $3000 or so to get home on time. I always leave a day buffer now w/ these guys. wj

Just curious, how many miles/points did the award ticket cost? Why not just book a direct flight or book Air Asia all the way through? (Actually Dragonair's website says it costs about $770, yikes! No clue about TG.)

You guys got me all nervous! I actually went ahead and changed my flight to the night before on the last flight. It only cost me like $25 USD but the piece of mind will set me at ease. Not only is the CX flight I am taking from BKK on an award ticket but I am actually connecting on another award ticket from HKG to get back to the USA. So suffice it to say I would be stranded without getting on that award ticket from HKG.

I think you made the safe/wise choice.
Enjoy the flights.

Good to know. Avios made me say "adios" to BA. They're still good for short haul apparently. I think I've got at least 30K lying around too. wj
