Marriott Rewards (including Ritz-Carlton) - Carlton vs. Algonquin

Found a couple of good LNF rates at Carlton and Algonquin for an upcoming weekend stay (2 rooms.) Will be doing some shopping, seeing a couple of shows, touring central park and visiting 9/11 Memorial. Am Platinum but neither includes breakfast on weekend. Would be nice to stay at Algonquin since it just completed remodel but heard rooms are a little smaller. Rate, inclusive of taxes, is $133.59 per room per night at Carlton and $161.37 per room per night at Algonquin. Which would you recommend?

I would not recommend either. Actually I have fond lower prices for both(12% lower and 15% lower in each case - base rate). I would recommend the JW. Got a nice 1 bedroom suite plus brekkie last time I was there.

Where is there a JW in New York?

Actually, unless the policy has changed since the reno, the Algonquin does provide (continental) breakfast on the weekend.

Here's the response I received from Gary Budge, manager of The Algonquin:

"The Algonquin does not offer breakfast service without cost to Marriott Elite Reward members on weekends, the Algonquin Elite breakfast service is offered Monday through Friday. This is typical of Marriott branded hotels in New York City such as The Marriott Marquis, Renaissance Times Square, Marriott Eastside."

The all-suites hotel that was once the the "Rihga Royal New York (a JW Marriott Hotel)" ceased being a JW Marriott in 2005, around seven years. In 2006, it was rebranded as The London NYC, New York.

I'm not aware of any JW Marriott in New York City since then.
