At first: A cordially welcome to flyertalk. :-)

Additional info about the Lounge access can be found here:
http://www.oneworld.com/ffp/lounge-access/
-> London Heathrow

You will find the info that the use of the First Class section of the Lounge is restricted to Emerald members.

BA Gold -> Emerald status

Therefore you should have access. As I donīt know if they have an open door policy you should provide the boarding pass.

Not really true at all!

The new cx lounge has a much ambience than the low ceiling BA f class lounge?
The catering of BA lounge is pretty ordinary however I did noticed a revamp of the made to order menu recently.

the CX catering is better especially the noodles.

The only thing BA lounge is better is the champagne bar

Catering in BA F lounge is superior to CX F lounge (which is basically similar to the J section with slight improvements).

Thanks for the response, I have flown with Cathay a few times as I have visited HK a couple of times a year for the past 10 or so. Usually only have time to make the gate but this coming visit will have lots more time so thought I would give the Lounge a shot. how did you know I was a transplant!...lol

I find the Oneworld lounge offering at LHR T3 rather dysfunctional. The BA lounge is good but not stunning, particularly considering that it is BA's home airport (albeit a very secondary terminal compared with T5); the CX lounge is good but nothing special considering it's at CX's largest long-haul destination by capacity; the AA lounge is apparently so bad according to reviews that I've actually never stepped foot in it - once again surprising considering LHR is probably also AA's largest long-haul destination by capacity. Surely it would make sense from a cost perspective as well as from a passenger facility point of view to have a combined J lounge and a combined F lounge instead?

Although I have not visited the LHR CX lounge, I do like BA's T3 GF lounge more than their T5 GF lounge, mainly because I can find some peace and quiet there. AA's Flagship lounge at LHR T3 is not bad, though a bit on the small side.
