Marriott Rewards (including Ritz-Carlton) - Confusion on buying Marriott Points

Hello!
I'm a noob although I've been trawling the boards for quite some time. Do excuse me if I've asked a question that's been asked before but I couldn't see a clear cut answer on this.
I have a £100 Marriott Gift Voucher and a gold members account.
What I want to know is can I, and how, do I 'buy' extra points with this £100 gift voucher as the extra loyalty points would come in quite handy in booking my next holiday as I'd hope it would let me jump up from 7 to an 8 hotel or an extra night or 2 at the band 7 hotel.
I can't seem to see anything about using a gift voucher to buy them but I understand how to do it if I was using a debit card online to do it.
Look forward to your advice
Katie
2 nights at a Catagory 7 for GBP100? where are you looking?
.... or an extra night or 2 at the band 7 hotel.

I haven't looked, I'm just summising.
But I was just roughly working out that £100 is $155 (according to XE) and you can buy the points online 1,000 for $12.50 unless i'm incorrect which would give me 12,000 which is enough to get me 1 extra night at a 7 from memory as I'm only 9,000 points away from an extra with my current total.
But either way, I still need to convert this voucher over.
once again, NO IDEA of where you're getting your info from but Marriott catagory 7 props require 35,000 points per night and if you happen to be looking at a point saver then it would still be 30,000, but in neither case 20,000 if you actually can use your voucher to buy points............

On the website, when I go to book using points….
I can see 8 hotels, over 4 brands all band 7 for my location.
All of them are 175,000 points for 6 nights.
All of them are 140,000 points for 5 nights
Given that I have 166,000 points in my account as mentioned
5 nights would give me a 26,000 surplus of points in my account.
6 nights would require me to have 9,000 extra points in my account.
If I am indeed able to redeem my gift voucher and it's redeemed at the theoretical value of 12,000 points, that then gives me enough to have a 6th night in a band 7 hotel with a small surplus of points.
Maybe my understanding of the redemption system is incorrect, but as I've always had more than enough points to redeem against stays, I have never had this issue before.
this is as stated, Category 7 is 35k/nite, but when you redeem points for 5-nights the 5th nite is not charged so 175k represent charges for 6-nites @
35k each + 1 no charge; same true for 5-nites with 1 @ no charge

I've never tried to use a Marriott Cheque to pay for something over the phone before. But if I were you, I'd probably give MR a call and see what they say. Given the website probably won't take the cheque, you will have to work through someone to get it done (assuming it is possible at all of course.)
frankly, doubt you can use your gift check to buy points but easier, just buy the points - a whopping $122.50 and then use the gift check at the hotel over the week to pay for any incidentals...........
why can't some folks just use the KISS system!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your help, I'll give them a quick call. I should have called in the first place but I'm posting from work and hoped someone would have been able to give me some advice with their experience before I had to make a call later on tonight.
And as for the KISS system.... I wish people would use the DBAAA too.
That's don't be an antagonistc arse, where I come from.

And why do some people feel a need to lecture other FTers
You sidetracked the thread from the get-go, something you're against ;). And then didn't really answer the question until after hhoope01 posted.
To the OP - hope it works out you can use the gift card. But be prepared you might not be able to, and will have to purchase the points via a different method.
Enjoy your holiday!
Cheers.
