US Airways Dividend Miles - Missed flight (due to misconnect) questions

I needed to visit a client in DTW yesterday (as I mentioned already a number of times in this forum).
A direct flight PHL-DTW was $1260, flying EWR-PHL-DTW-PHL-EWR was only $582. I actually live slightly closer to EWR so even considering all the added connection time, I decided to be nice to the client and save them the significant sum of money and take the connection.

I plead guilty to actually considering doing hidden city on the return and getting off at PHL (this would have required taking cabs to the airport), but I decided against it and I dutifully drove my car to EWR (leaving 4:30 AM).

Well the return flight to PHL was held up by weather and I missed my connection to EWR. (The plane was still there, but the door was already closed...)
Since this was the last flight to EWR of the day, I rented a one way rental and went home overnight. I any way needed to be in NYC today, so on the way back I will drop the rental at EWR and pick up my car. All in all, not that terrible for me. I got home :45 minutes ealier than planned last night and the client can't complain about the $150 the rental car cost when I saved so much on the connection in the first place.

Now the questions:

When I called to cancel the final leg (and explain that I was not doing to hidden city, but this was legitmate change), The agent offered to refund the final leg. Will I actually get any money back? The actual cost of this leg was a [large] negative number. The taxes?
Can I try to get credit for something like "original routing miles?" It wasn't my fault that I missed the last leg
I assume I can't require US to reimburse any of the cost of the rental car. Is there any point in even asking?

I've gotten refunded for partial trips that I needed to cancel just because I changed my mind. Ask for the refund and in 3 days or so you'll see the amount - they won't charge you anything more, it might just be a very small refund.

As for compensation for the rental, that was your choice. They would have reaccomodated you on the next available flight, so you're not due anything. This is just one of those "roll with the punches" things - just be glad you were close to home when you got stuck!

Each leg of any trip has some (positive) amount attached to it in the US accounting scheme, so, sure, you'll get something back ...

Now, about the 500 miles for the missing PHL-EWR segment ... This I am curious about ... My sense is that you could make a case for it under "original routing credit"; but that, once you take some money for the cancellation of this segment, the case for such a credit weakens immensely.

The gray area with respect to the mileage credit is that I have seen all kinds of weird things happen "automatically" given IRROPS and last-second re-routing, so you might want to wait a couple of days to see what posts ...

My experience in situations like this has been pretty favorable and 've usually gotten the miles without having to call.

Biggie's advice to wait a few days to see what posts as US does usually post in 3 days.

My feeling (As in no proof) is the higher your status with US the more likely it is you'll get the mileage credit.

Update:
I got mileage credit for the three flights I actually took. No credit for the one I didn't

The US website is showing a refund of $164.22 for the segment that I didn't take. That is really incredible since its more that 1/4 of the total ticket cost.

This whole thing works out to be a wash (even the rental credit roughly equals the miles that I am not getting)

You have the right attitude. It's a wash. Call it a day.

Thanks for the update.
