Hi everybody! I'm far from a seasoned flyer, I've only been on a few domestic flights. I have a flight to Moscow coming up, and I'm a little nervous about the short layover in CDG. As far as I am aware, both flight come in/out of Terminal 2E at CDG, which is good. But do I have to go through security, passport control, etc? I have a US passport. Neither the US nor Russia are part of the Schengen area, but France is. I'm not sure how all this works...
I heard CDG can be a nightmare for transfers. Can anybody walk me through this?
Thanks!!
AF 23

AF 1644

You'll go through security. AF should check your passport for a Russian visa before letting you board the flight at JFK.
In CDG you'll be fine.
On the CDG-MOW leg, try to sit as far forward as possible and as soon as you get off the plane RUN (FAST), the immigration queues in Moscow can be dreadful and are always painfully slow...
I confirm. You'll be fine. CDG is no longer the transfer nightmare it used to be. Pretty much okay nowadays actually. And it's still getting better.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm glad to hear that CDG is getting better. So in Paris I'll go through security, but not customs and passport control? Shouldn't be too hard :)

As other people say, you should be fine in Paris. What I'm not so sure about is your luggage. Personally I have a dreadful track record of lost luggage when having short transits in CDG.
Thankfully this has only happened to me when returning from abroad, thus damage is not big.
Would you happen to have Sky Priority? The yellow strip on your checked luggage may help...

Not through CDG, but everywhere else I have flow the fluorescent yellow Priority marking has actually started to work (at least in HEL, NRT and GVA). Don't know if I had lady luck on my side though
Otherwise, I have never had an issue with my bags with AF either as transit or as final destination ^ (BA on the other hand through LHR :td:)
