I have asked several times to have a card sent to me b/c the first was never received. I have now asked 3 times and even sent an email to Marriott, but still no card in the mail. Anyone else having this problem? I stopped staying at Marriott until I get one in the mail.

Yes. I have called Marriott many times as well informing them that I have not received my gold card. To date, nothing.

You can just send them an e-mail. Oh, I forgot...they never respond to e-mail either.

I've asked... and asked....
You'd think they use real platinum for the card...

I have been waiting for my new gold card since March. It seems they have to put the order in and the system is very slow, kinda like their timely statements and promotion offers that are ending just as you receive them in the mail.

I'm glad I'm not the only one waiting for my platinum card. You would think they would want to get them out to their top people!
Also still waiting for my gold card http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I can top all y'all ... I was PLAT before I ever got the FIRST Rewards card... yeah, that's right... the non-status one that you get when you first sign up!! I finally did get it about a week after turning PLATINUM! To date, that's the only card I've received from Marriott... no Silver, no Gold, no Platinum... it irrelevant because your status is on your record in their system, but it is nice to have a card... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm Hyatt Diamond and SPG Platinum - called Marriott to see if they had any kind of challenge or would comp me to Marriott Platinum. You guys will be happy to know they said no dice - the only way to get Platinum is to stay the nights. (I think he also laughed and said something about never sending cards out - but I missed that part).
I haven't received my gold car either and will be making platinum soon but I imagine I will be using my current silver card until next year.
I guess I'm special -- I got my Platinum card one month after I qualified. I got my new Platinum card right on time as my old card expired.
It seems like I am an exception to the rule... but like all of you probably know the card really doesnt matter.. It's a pride issue, I know -- meeting some old friends yesterday, I passed out my Chairman's Preferred, President's Circle, and Platinum cards (not to mention other misc Gold and Platinum cards) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
My Platinum card expired in April 2000, I phoned in April, May and June asking for a new card. Then two weeks ago a new Platinum card arrived, valid until the end of this year and with a note basically saying I hadn't really earnt it but they were giving me a Platinum card out of the goodness of their heart.
I phoned and pointed out that I had stayed over 75 nights and therefore I had earnt Platinum and not only had I earnt it but I had earnt it until April 2001.
They accepted, said that there was something wrong with the system and said a new card would be issued with the correct expiry date.
I am still waiting.... Anyone want to take bets about if the new card will ever show?

So why do you need the card anyway ? Your number will suffice and will recognize you at whatever level you are.
Mike: In theory, but I have had to produce the card too many times to not carry it - especially when wanting lounge access prior to checking in.

Well, I did finally get my PLT card last week in the mail... approx. 5 weeks after I made the status. I've still never seen any trace of a card for the other two status levels, Silver and Gold. Ohwell... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

WOW be Marriott's treatment of their best customers. I have over 1.2 million points total with Marriott. But to get any consideration, I have to earn Elite status each year with the required nights stays. Otherwise, I am treated as any beginner. Not traveling as much and due to the attitude I have experienced (like at the LAX MARRIOTT), I have stayed at the Hyatt and Hilton some. In other words, there is no recognition for loyalty without requalifying yearly. So when you you go to use the points, you are a stranger!
Will they wake up?

ROADRUNNER,
I don't know why this comes as a shock... they're merely following the lead of the airline industry, which was the first travel industry to reward frequent customers. Airlines make you re-qualify every year even if you have two billion FF miles... now reason why the hotels wouldn't do the same. I think the main reason is that, by requiring a certain number of nights a year, they have a more accurate benchmark of revenue vs. loss when doing the books on their frequent guest program. By this I mean: there are MANY ways to get 'points' aside from actually patronizing a hotel/airline/car rental agency. However, by requiring the customer to USE the services (actual flight miles, actual nights stayed, actual number of rentals), they are able to justify the continuance of the programs, seeing as how they exist to reward REVENUE.
You may have 1.2 million points, but of course they'll make you re-qualify every year because, cruel as it sounds, if you stop staying 'X number of nights' every year, you're no longer considered a valuable customer (cash cow)... it's sad, but true from what I've been able to observe.

I understand what you are saying, but that decreases the value of the points and the reasons for being loyal. You had to help their revenues, while accumulating the points. Say after retiring, you don't travel as much on paid tickets and want to use AWARDS, there is LITTLE consideration. Even worse now, that 21 day advance discounted tickets do not quality for upgrades, and you have to pay a higher fare!
Is that a reward for being loyal in the recent past????
