Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - PE to CDG sold as Y

I'm flying to Paris on 3 Sep and as shown in KVS the aircraft is going to be 77G. I've called MPC to confirm this, MPC told me that although PE is not open for reservation (being sold as Y) they were unable to allocate me a PE seat.
Does anyone here have had a similar experience before? MPC told me that I could ask about this upon check-in, but I'm not sure what I should say. Especially I will be flying out from AKL where CX's ground service is handled by Qantas. I don't want to raise the red flag of being seen as asking for an upgrade, but I am quite keen to try out the new PE.
Also I'd like to share a perk that I've recently experienced as a Gold member. I called MPC to change my travel date (booking class V), while KVS showed 0 availability for my booking class, MPC was able to move me to my desired travel date. I remember back in the day when I was still a green, MPC always asked me to upsell my booking class. I am very pleased with MPC:)
Regarding your booking class issue, are you sure that the booking class availability wasn't affected by point of sale availability?

I tried both HKG & AKL for departure, both returned 0 availability in V class.

OP is GO and has seat guarantee.
So the new 77W service replacing current 747 on CX261/0 is going 74A -> 77G??? Are you sure no F? I would have thought it would be a 4 class 77H??
the staff is wrong!:(
if you check at cathaypacific.com, indeed PE are available for sale!
also it is using 77H(4-class) for CX261 on Day x246 from 1/9/12 till 27/10/12 while daily from 28/10/12 onwards

...AKL where CX's ground service is handled by Qantas...
Just a quick note that CX's ground service in AKL is operated by handling agent Menzies. Also, CX has its own ground service supervisors (in uniform) on duty during the check-in period.
