Flying Blue (Air France, KLM, and Other Partners) - Immediate miles credit when rebooking award flight?

Hello! I've booked an award seat with my last miles. It includes a stopover. If I now see a direct flight opening up I'd like to change my booking. As I have no miles left in my account, will I be able to do the switch immediately? Or will it be cancellation of the first booking, wait for a week for the miles to reappear in my account and then proceed to book the other flight (which has probably gone by then). I don't want to gamble and I'd rather hold on to my current booking than being left without a flight at all. What do you think? Thanks, ps

When you do it on the website: you have to wait quite some time before the miles are given back.
But you can always use the phone: they are capable of doing it right away.

Quite a few people seem to either be unaware that they can call Flying Blue (or else are downright afraid of the prospect!).

It's good to be able to do some things online, but th is is clearly a case where speaking to an agent is a (potentially) far better option.

Good luck!!!

Thank you for your replies. It's good to know that the call centre is able to re-credit miles immediately.

I'm actually not sure what you mean about the recredting of miles. Award tickets allow changes, if you simply want to change the date of your AAA-CCC (with or without stopover in BBB) this does not normally involve any miles recredit/recharging but just payment of the relevant change fee (impossible on a promo award, €45 on a classic award, 0 on a flex award). Or am I missing something (e.g. were you charged two tickets or something?)

If you call, the agent should be able to grab the new nonstop award flight you want before canceling the current award space you have. You're changing the ticket, although formally it will be cancelled and reissued. They should also be able to do this in a way that doesn't require that award space be available to book now for the segments in the opposite direction (assuming RT travel) that you're not trying to change.

Doing it on your own through the website could risk losing the award space you currently have without being able to get the revised award ticket due to not having the right award inventory available. Remember that when award tickets are cancelled, the space need not immediately reappear as available award inventory.

Do Elites still have to pay the change fee when changing/canceling an award ticket? Is there a fee to do it over the phone?

yes for the 1st question. Not sure for the 2nd one.

I can confirm that I was able to get my one-way flight changed from an indirect to a direct flight. Technically it was a cancellation and new booking. I did it over the phone and paid the 45 Euro cancellation fee. No fees for the phone booking.
