As you may be aware my time at bmi is coming to an end on Wed 11th July, after nearly 18 years working for the company and 7 years on Flyertalk it is a very sad time for me and I just wanted to say my goodbyes to you all and thank you for all your kind comments over the years. I hope I’ve managed to help at least some of you out along the way and I even though you may not believe me I have enjoyed my time on Flyertalk and I like to think I’ve made a few friends along the way. Once I leave I’ll create a new username and should any of you be interested I will post to update you as to what I do next.
I will be around tying up loose ends between now and the 11th, but probably won’t get much chance to come onto Flyertalk and respond to any DC issues.
If you have any, I’m sure Nikki will be able to point you in the right direction.
Once again, it’s been lovely being apart of the Flyertalk community and I’ll make sure I take ‘my list’ with me so I can pop back to see what your all up to when I leave.

Good luck for the future and thanks for the status match that got me flying bmi back in 2008. It's a shame I hadn't discovered bmi sooner, the airline had some of the best frontline staff you could imagine, people who tried to help rather than looking at a rulebook.

I think I'm probably the person who has worked most closely with Diamond Club over the last number of years and on behalf of the users of this board and on behalf of Flyertalk.com I would like to sincerely offer our thanks to you Diamond Club!
Let the eulogy begin:
Diamond Club was the first official airline lurker on Flyertalk, best as I am aware, and her contribution here has been enormous. All other FT lurkers stand in her shadow and owe her a debt of gratitude - and her early lead in social media has set the pace round these parts.
Diamond Club has helped innumerable (and innumerate) FTers through the years - far more than will be obvious from her sometimes limited posting on the board. I expect that at times, she has been driven to the edge by some of the posters here (haven't we all? :D) but she has always courteously and patiently helped everyone to the best of her ability. She is one of the great lurkers and has been an incredible brand ambassador for bmi. She has also been a source of useful and accurate information at times when clarity has been lacking.
I have also had the great pleasure of meeting Joanna in person - and she is even nicer in real life - this will come as no surprise to the regulars. I am pleased and honoured to count her as one of my friends. She's pretty soft on the eye too. ;)
I am tremendously sad to see Diamond Club and Jo leave us - but am pleased she will look in occasionally.
Jo - thanks for everything, my friend.

Jo, you can't believe how sad I am to hear this; of all the BD/DC staff, you were the one that I hoped would be able to find future employment with BA :(
You took care of my and Mrs NWIFlyer's status matches from KLM, and you sorted out so many issues for us over the time. At least I can say, with our flying record and credit card spend since, your judgment in giving those matches was spot on :)
I'm sure in common with everyone else on this board I wish you the very best for the future, and hope your talents will be recognised and rewarded in your next job.
Oh, by the way, if you'd like to give the BD side of the Twix story before GoldCircle tells us his version ...

It's the extra effort and love for their company of individuals that make large companies feel small and personal, and Jo's tireless efforts to patiently listen and try to help anyone that asks has been to many FT'ers the personal face of BMI. The value to BMI's bottom line of Jo over the years has been in my view incalculable.

I'm not terribly good at these, so here goes.
Jo, you have been an outstanding ambassador for bmi, and you've probably created unquantifiable value for the airline through fixing problems and growing a positive reputation for bmi that spread far beyond its route network.
It was far-sighted of BD to sanction your official involvement on FT, and they probably didn't realise the significance of the decision. I think it's paid off for them - and us - in spades.
I know that bmi has been a huge part of your life, and it must be difficult to work through the last couple of days. Please go out the door on Wednesday knowing that you've created so much good feeling and goodwill, saved so many special moments from potentially tragic endings, fixed so many frustrating situations, earned the respect of your peers in the industry and of your customers in the (horribly demanding) world of FT, and contributed immeasurably to the bmi story.
As I said, I'm rubbish at goodbyes, so I'll just say 'see you later', and all that other stuff that GoldCircle said better than me. ;)

Thankyou from both of us for all the help you have given us over the years. A real common sense approach to problems and a determination to help. Getting availability to upgrade on those Manchester to Barbados flights! Your willingness to be approached has given DC a very human face which is lacking from most FF programmes. You made us both feel valued as customers. You are one of the few women we have sent flowers to over the years despite having never personally met you! Well many others have already said things far better than I possibly can, but I will add my few pence worth in.
Jo has been an absolutely superb ambassador for bmi over the years, both in public on FT and behind email from HQ. Many companies have people who deal with customers, but very few have people like Jo who are known to their customers and in turn know many of their customers as well.
Like FT, Diamond Club has had a broad range of customers ranging from the experienced frequent traveller, through to the occasional travelling newbie with little knowledge of loyalty programs or airlines. No matter whether you were a newbie with a naive question, or a DC regular needing a bit of support, Jo would always help and support you despite a lot of resource challenges - I think many people would be surprised to know just how small a team led Diamond Club over the years, making so many of us feel part of the bmi / Diamond Club family.
Personally, I am very thankful for all the help Jo has given me over the years and so I would like to add my thanks to those of everyone else in this thread. She is bmi for many of us and I know that in turn bmi has been a major part of her life for many years now. I truly hope that whatever she does next, she gets sorted with a role that she deserves.
Cheers Jo for everything and all the best for the future. It has been a pleasure dealing with you, even if dealing with all of us might not have been a pleasure all of the time for you. ;)

Looking back at LH managing bmi/DC I can only see all the wrong strategies and decisions. DC is/was a far superior FFP to M&M (look at the loyal following), and bmi could have been a different "animal" if the resources and willingness were there from LH (As was for LX and is there for OS).

There have been several occasions when you have sorted out unposted or wrongly posted miles (or - in the other direction - Gold cards) as well chasing up things like AC Business Class miles which were wrongly listed as non-earning, or simply being there to check things like my progress to Gold for Life. These things were of personal help to me (and, indirectly, some of them to other FTers too). On top of that, you were (are) always so nice and friendly about everything.

Joanna, what can I add that hasn't already been said? You've been nothing short of AMAZING! You've helped me out personally on more than one occasion and I've never forgotten that.
GoldCircle already said it but you really have been a fantastic official airline lurker and a role model to them all really.
The very very best of luck in whatever it is you do next, and look forward to still seeing you here from time to time - please don't be a stranger!

Joanna - I've never had to ask you directly for help, but have really appreciated your posts on here and your contribution to making Diamond Club such a good frequent flyer programme. All the best for the future - I'm sure your experience at BD will stand you in good stead.

Joanna - Some great eulogies already posted so I'll just add my own thankyou for your contributions and efforts - thankfully I only needed your assistance on a very few occasions, but it was always great to have that backstop - BMI's personal touch was a real reason why I always enjoyed to give you my business.
I wish you all the best for the future, perhaps we'll see you at the next/last BD do :)

Best of luck in the future, eventhough Iv'e never met you as I am new to FT, but you sound really nice.
Did BA not offer yourself the the moderators here jobs in the combined company? Or did you refuse as they would make you move from the Midlands to London?
It's a shame to see BMI go, but it is better to be used to create a strong BA than to be completley shut down.
I used to fly BMI quite a bit, however since the trains in the UK have pulled their act together and since BMI started flying to really weird destinations I haven't flown on them for a few years.
British Midland will be very much missed.

Joanna isn't/wasn't a moderator but an official airline rep here.

Good luck for the future.
Diamond Club was my programme of choice for the last 5 years and one of the reasons I chose DC was the excellent level of support you were willing to give combined with the generosity of the programme.
Thank you so much for all you've done for us all over the years. We're gonna miss you.

Oh wow. Everyone here has said it all already, but I just wanted to add my personal thanks for everything you have done for all of us, Joanna - your contribution to the board and the wider bmi community ^
It was people like you who made bmi the very special airline that it was, and that we all remained loyal to... Gosh, I think I made my first bmi flight the same year you joined the airline!
Thank you, and best wishes for the future

BMI Diamond Club going is sad for many of us frequent flyers. It was a great program managed by some very extraordinary people.
That said, this part of the transition does upset me, good people like Joanna having to leave the job they so enjoyed over a long time.
Joanna you have always been so helpful and your commitment is what made us loyal customers. Over the past 8 years you have helped me numerous times and am really sad to see you go. That said you have hundreds of references here and am sure that a star like you will land on het feet.
I wish you very well,

My small contribution is to add one more sincere and massive THANK YOU, Joanna, and to wish you the very best in whatever you go on to do.

Another post wishing you well in whatever your next challenge is. I will really miss bmi. I flew yesterday on a BA flight for the first time in about 8 years (travel bmi most weeks) and it really felt wrong. bmi was like a family with the personal touch and will be sadly missed by many people. The thing that made bmi great was the people...thank you

Diamond Jo,
Thank you for all your help these past 3.5 years since I joined the bmi Diamond Club family. You've been great in sorting any problems out and giving us some news on the bmi board. As already pointed out it really was a revolution that bmi provided a lurker on FlyerTalk. It amazed me I could communicate directly with someone who had the power to make changes. Truly a wonderful idea.
But let's not forget that bmi were the forefront of many things, the first European business class "Diamond EuroClass", Diamond Service when BA offered nothing on domestic runs and of course, perhaps most relevant to FT was 'Cyberseat', the FIRST airline to allow bookings and payment on the Internet.
It's clear from friends who worked for bmi that it was a wonderful company to work for, but it's people like you that made it a great company and that family feeling that we all miss and love.
Absolute best of luck for whatever you decide to do.

Joanna,
Thank you so much for your hard work and best wishes for the future. Diamond Club gave us exceptional value in terms of earning and redemption, but the administration of it was sometimes less than perfect. Your helpfulness and availability on Flyertalk made up for some of DC's little quirks.

Joanna,
I still remember my first interaction with you a few years ago, when you got an IT glitch fixed in my account (the mysterious monthly 38000 status mile deductions). I had only been a DC member for a few months, and was rather shocked at how much better my situation was dealt with as compared to other customer service issues I have experienced.
Best wishes for your post-DC life!

Jo, first of all sorry for not posting sooner. I don't think I ever had any direct contact with you but the diamond.club email team you led were truly fantastic. The best customer service department I've ever dealt with. Best wishes for the future, it'd be a crime if you weren't snapped up quickly!

Joanna,
just to say thank you. :)
To me you've made Diamond Club and bmi what it was known for - personality. I think it was you, back in the day, that ensured my promotional miles were retro-credited which got my first taste of airline status; from there it continued to today. You've been friendly, open-minded and always down-to-earth. I've not once felt like a bum-on-a-seat, but rather a valued flyer of bmi; and at times, not so much a customer of bmi but rather a friend of bmi. That wouldn't have been the case without your contributions to this forum.
I wish you well in your future ventures.
It's been a pleasure.

Another late reply here as I was away when this was posted. Just wanted to say my personal thanks to you Jo. You've always helped me out when I've needed it and applied common sense to the rules resulting in many much more pleasant flights than I'd have had otherwise.
Thank you so much for everything and all the best for the future whatever it may hold. You will be sorely missed along with the entire Diamond Club programme. You're a true :-: and will be a major asset to your next company!
