Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Asiamiles redemption for HKG-HEL on AY availability

Planning to redeem for a HKG-HEL return flight on AY in October 2012 - it seems like its a good use of my Asiamiles given the fact that it falls below the 5000 mile threshold. Will then buy an AY ticket for HEL-TXL leg on my own.

Called up MPO today and they said there is no availability on my requested times, but there is no waitlisting either. So all I can do is to call back every so often to check on their status.

I've looked at Expertflyer and there appears to be "X" class tickets available for the flights I am requesting.

Has anyone had the experience of AY redemption before? About when do they provide more tickets for redemption? Any advice / experience much appreciated!

Try ba.com. Their engine shows AY availability.

Qantas' web site also shows award availability for AY. But from my searches, usually Bangkok is available, then Shanghai...HKG is the toughest unless it's a really non-peak day.

Isn't award availability in "T" for economy, "U" on Business on Oneworld carriers?

"U" is always for J redemption, but "T" is not always for Y. In fact, now CX uses "T" for Y+ redemption and "X" for Y redemption. Before the introduction of Y+, T is for AM Y redemption while X if for other partner's Y redemption on CX.
