Looking to head there in October. I've never been and hoping to get a few suggestions on which route to go? Resort, hotel, private condo (like AirBnB)?
Any suggestions/recs would be appreciated!

Can't really help with lodging but an FYI - if you use any credit card in Caymen they will charge in US dollars at whatever rate they are using- you have no say in this practice. You will still have a foreign transaction fee from your credit card company (most cards have this fee).
So either be prepared for this or just pull cash from an ATM andpay that way.

AX does not charge any transactions fees in KY, not sure about VS/MC.
Just returned from Grand cayman on July 19th. Are you going as a family or a couple? We stayed at the Comfort Suites on 7th mile beach. The room worked well for the five of us- 2 adults, 3 kids with the two beds and a sofa bed. Hotel itself was not great, but used points so fit the bill. 7 mile had great snorkeling and reasonably close to restaurant's and shops. Recommend the stingray sandbar as my kids loved it. We enjoyed it very much!

For your first time, you want to be on 7 mile beach. There are your usual hotels: Marriott, Ritz, Westin, Comfort Suites and privately owned Sunshine Suites - all have different price points. Depends on your budget.
Marriott is at one end closer to town so you can walk to some restaurants. Westin/Ritz are further down.
Rent a car in GCM. It is easy to drive and taxis are expensive. They drive on the left, but everybody goes relatively slow with good flat roads.
Cheers.

Agree completely. Comfort Suites is not on the beach, but almost. It's about 50 yds down a laneway.
