That's the good news - QF awards online at AA.com
The bad news, unless something changed recently, is that Australian credit cards aren't accepted. [EDIT - YES SOMETHING CHANGED AT LAST see this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/american-aadvantage/1362756-expanded-list-countries-where-credit-cards-accepted-aa-com-us.html) ]
You still have to call AAdvantage on the Brisbane number to pay the taxes, walloping YQ [EDIT - oops there's no YQ if you book thru AA, and you'll pay only about half the miles, why collect QF points eh]

There are no YQs to pay for awards on QF
You can phone AA UK and pay in the UK and pay the lower booking fee

Call London and pay a lower booking fee eh, that's a good one. Would be nicer to pay online though.
Do you mean AA doesn't add fuel surcharges to QF award seats, or that QF awards don't have surcharges? It's a while since I booked a QF international award thru QF but IIRC there was a fee of some hundreds of dollars called "taxes"?

There are no fuel surcharges to pay on QF award seats from AA ( QF does charge fuel fines on QF awards); it is easy to pay a couple of hundred dollars in taxes ( no " needed, these are genuine taxes/fees, no fare disguised as a tax ) ; e.g. SYD-LAX r/t has $167 in taxes
Indeed. Phone London and pay GBP15 or is it 20 rather than AUD60; if you have status with AA, you should also be able to phone US and pay the $20 fee
This is really a thread that should live in the AAdvantage forum I would say though

Looks like AA fixed the creditcard bug, see this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/american-aadvantage/1362756-expanded-list-countries-where-credit-cards-accepted-aa-com-us.html)
AA.com noww acepts credit cards from effectively everywhere including Australia

Even works for QantasLink flights, which don't work on the BA website!
[EDIT - oops there's no YQ if you book thru AA, and you'll pay only about half the miles, why collect QF points eh]
Depends on the route. For domestic AA is flat-rate, whereas QF is mile based. So for SYD-BNE QF is cheaper, but for longer flights like SYD-PER AA is a steal at only 10k miles compared to QF's 18k.
For international.. well.. QF isn't even in the race.

Will aa.com have same availability of award seats as compared to booking on QF directly? I'm just thinking of the infamous Starnet blocking that UA did/still does...
Otherwise seems like awards are much cheaper on AA, the only thing that would seem to cost less miles to get into J is doing the W to J upgrade via QF for 45k points.
I've earned WP this year but now am wondering whether to focus on AA to accrue and just buy award seats when I can?

My experience is that AA will see the same availability for premium class award seats as a QF Platinum member will see on Qantas website
I tend to use Expert Flyer for availability searching and have never had a case where EF has shown availability in X/U/P and AA could not actually book it

This is great news indeed except that I've been unable to find any availability in Business on flights to LAX and DFW. Is it normally tha same case when using Qantas points?

This thread is about AA awards on Qantas flights
"QF awards online at AA.com" is more correctly "AA awards for Qantas flights online at AA.com"
As post 4 above "This is really a thread that should live in the AAdvantage forum I would say though"
